Radiohead Vs Porcupine Tree

I have always liked the way the guitars never really drew much attention to themselves with Tool. I just really like the way it adds that 'little bit more'. Rather than dominating the entire song. I couldnt think of it anyother way.

If Radiohead is half the music that PT is creating, I will check them out.
I have only heard Creep, which i like.

Porcupine Tree is fantastic! If you havent heard them, check them out.
They are probably my second favourite band of all times.

I understand that you're saying his style of playing is unorigional, but use your brain for a second and realize he did it before it became popular to tune that last string down a step and he created a sound that is unique. Tell me one guitarist that sounds like Adam that ISNT in a Tool ripoff band and I'll give you a HUGE high five. For fucks sake, he's probably the most Tool sounding member out of the whole band.

** Edit: That comment was so fucking retarded of you.
The Melvins and Kyuss (to a lesser extent) sound quite similar to adam's playing. Both predate tool, and manage to sound less boring.

The Melvins sounds NOTHING like Tool, and Buzz's guitar is far more sludgy, Tool's songs are 10 times more varied, Adam is able to create some atmosphere with his playing style. And Kyuss? the only similarity is maybe the Sabbath-influence.

STFU about Tool already. Radiohead is a million times the band Tool will ever be, and Porcupine Tree eats Tool for breakfast.

its funny that you say PT eats tool for breakfast when they use Tool as inspiration for a lot of their modern material. It's easy to talk bad about Tool since a lot of people here dislike them, but PT and Opeth cite Tool as inspiration. I don't understand why people here are so against Tool, but they've inspired a lot of bands and they're definitely a band that musicians and theory fans can latch on to. I love Tool, but I'm not gonna say they're better than PT or Radiohead; Instead i'll just say they're all in the same league. SOme people on this forum need to let their Tool hate go, i know i've had enough of it.

It's not that I hate Tool, I just don't really like their music. Fine, some bands that I love cite them as inspirations and whatever but that doesn't mean I have to like their music. I respect the effect they've had on a lot of bands but that doesn't make a difference to how good they sound to me. And of course, saying some band eats another for breakfast is obviously very objective seeing as everyone looks for and appreciates different things in music.

Because if someone chooses to stay that way all the time they are fooling themselves and have some serious issues. If you're sad all the time then you're keeping yourself sad because you have some other serious crap to deal with that you're avoiding.

Not a good enough label for social categorization in my books.

Apologies. The last post wasn't made in the best of moods.

You detested 'Lateralus', right?

I guess I'm just wondering why you even bothered with the follow up?

Just curious.

lateralus was good when I was 16, then I grew up

I listened to 10k days the day it leaked because I was hoping that a band who has some undeniable talent and creativity would finally put out something good for god's sake, but no it's another yawnfest, full of angst and whining, obnoxious singing, and obvious rehash from earlier albums

good lord shadows.. angst and whining? obvious rehash from other albums?
you clearly didnt even give it a proper listen. ill give you the obnoxious singing part, but the others are way to sketchy.

I would never say that anyone HAS to like a band, I just don't get why Tool is a band that people love to pick on. I can understand people not liking just about any band, but why the hatred for Tool is so apparent here, I don't understand. But this thread isn't about Tool, so that's the last I'll talk about them.

On topic: I've been listening to Radiohead a bunch recently and I'd have to say I like them more than PT. It's hard to say why, but I feel like Radiohead take more risks than PT and i respect them for that. They've kinda stagnated recently, but Kid A is just one of the better albums of the past decade, which i can't say for any PT album (although In Absentia is incredibly solid all the way through). We'll see how each of their new albums stack up, since we can expect one from each band next year.
