Radiohead Vs Porcupine Tree

What is it about Maynards voice that irritates you so much? I happen to think his vocals are really good, as do many others. Why do you detest him so much?

I mean, look at it this way... you're obviously a HUGE Trickster fan. And so am I. And Trickster has, of late, become an excellent vocalist. But let's be honest... back in 1997, he was pretty goddamn awful. Are you honestly going to say that '97 Garm is a better vocalist than MJK? If so... why?

I'm genuinely interested.

very good points/questions as usual dude, I await NFU's answer :)

i really dont see the relevance in your comparison and i dont see why it is so weird to not like Maynards voice. I just dont really understand how your opinion of '97 Garm has anything to do with his opinion of Maynard.

Personally I'd have to go with Porcupine Tree, I mean i have heard radiohead much longer, (my uncle used to play their cds when i was there), but I prefer pt, i like their guitars better and i guess i prefer steve's vocals to the radiohead guys, they do both have awesome songs though, its kinda hard to say (for me)

Lemmy does not approve Radiohead for lack of kicking ass, having fun, drinking booze, fucking groupies, doing meth.

Radiohead sums up the western countries generation pretty well : I feel so sad, life is so hard, I love watching my belly 24/7, I am so insecure, my feelings are creepy.

In fact, I don't see the differences between the feelings expressed in Radiohead's music that the entire Emo/Screamo plague.

Get these guys a fucking beer for Christ Sake !

It s a fantasy of mine to have Lemmy explain life to Thom 'I doesn't have any veins to slit' York in a confined room where Whiney Boy couldn't be able to escape.

The first sentence by Lemmy would be :

" You see son, I got into music to have pussy ..."

Thom : "Yeah but the pain inside is so hard, our future is doomed and I ..."

Lemmy : "STFU and Listen !!!"

im sure our dear mr. rock n roll would say those, but im also pretty sure yorke has much more intelligent things to say...which you have failed to hear or understand so far.

so your comment is lame. you're mistaking radiohead for something they are not: emo.

agreed.

I actually dont despise maynards vocals. Maybe they would benefit from different vocals. I still really enjoy them though, but whats all this 'adams playing is too simple?' I just dont get that. why should it matter...

Yeah, they really wouldn't be Tool without Adam. I admit I would like to see what they could do if they added a second guitarist though. I think it would be interesting.

Maynard's a kind of one trick pony. His voice is really well suited to Tool and to a lesser extent APC, but take him out of that area, and his voice just wouldn't be as effective. It's because of that, that I don't rate him as a singer/vocalist. Sure he's great in Tool, but what else can he really do?

Well for starters, Maynard has been in other bands before Tool and APC (not that I've heard them) but he may have used his voice differently in other bands... wouldn't be the first time it happened :loco:

I think he has a very versatile voice.
