Not into any of that stuff. Bored the crap out of me. Thanks anyway.

:err:ok... So you only listen to certain hip-hop then, right???

Not at all surprised, you prefer the rock genre, it's cool!!

No gangsta rap then??? Well at least the tracks are way way better than all that mainstream bullshit esp. today,
which I do NOT listen to...

I have to say I've never really liked rap/hip hop. Not that I hated it, it doesn't bother me, just most of it bores me, or I can't get into it. However someone just recommended I try the new Saul Williams album The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! and I'm listening right now and so far, I'm really digging it. Any other artists like this?

Yeah I'm pretty picky with my hip-hop. Well all music really. Yeah the stuff you posted is better than mainstream stuff, but I found it a tad on the cheesy side. I don't mind some gangsta stuff, Def Squad and early Keith Murray, Redman, Wu-Tang, NWA etc, but I prefer intellegent hip-hop like Jurassic 5, Pharcyde, De La Soul, Roots etc.

Oh and I don't necessarily prefer rock. I've listened to hip-hop since '84 when Beat Street came out.

Yeah not bad. Halftime is my favorite track. It's not the mega classic I'd hoped it'd be though. There's a fair bit of filler on there.

The standout cd from my recent bout of hip-hop purchasing is definitely Liquid Swords by GZA.

Whats some good hip hop thats musically interesting? IE not just some simple repetitive beats. Maybe something that utilizes actual performers like a beat boxer, a stepper, and a turn tablist or something.

Have you heard Mike Patton's Peeping Tom album? His General Patton vs the Executioners album is also well worth checking out.

Apart from that I'd recommend:
Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
Cut Chemist - The Litmus Test
DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
The Heliocentrics - Out There

and probably a bunch of other stuff but that's a start.

Off subject; but are we allowed to upload & post up mp3s on here for others to hear cuz I dont wanna risk myself gettin banned??????

Not really no. Links to websites/myspace pages are preferred.

Yeah I've heard of it but never really taken the time to check it out, guess I should since I do enjoy some of Patton's work. I actually had someone recommend me busdriver and I really like his stuff.

i appreciate the good hip hop like A Tribe Called Quest, People Under the Stairs i'd recommend, Jurassic 5, Deltron 3030. nothing mainstream or with stupid lyrics

J5, the Roots, Tribe and Grits are my fav's. Don't listen to much other rap.

I like dancing to old school stuff like Public Enemy, O.P.P., and such. I can stomach some of the early gangsta stuff, too, but beyond that rap isnt' exactly my forte. Probably typical for someone with the user name "thrashgirl."
