Re-opening the Nebula for cabs discussion

Sure, no problem Mancha, at least they're the first batch of DI's I've posted here that were actually recorded with the pickup at a good height! (and as we've all learned from the tone competition, WOW does it make a difference :erk: ) Sounds pretty cool, though still a bit harsh, and also quite off-axis cloudy (though that obviously was the result of the mic position when making the sample)

My preamp was also set with a bit of excessive highs, but the program is actually pretty usable.
Even though it`s not quite there yet, it`s a big improvement and a nice preview of things to come.
AeternusEternus is definatelly on the right path this time :worship:
Keep it up dude!

The proper attitude to have here is that the programs are only as usable as my cab micing skills. You'll see! This is gonna dominate, son!

I think all this investigation must be done by the Nebula developers, not by a simple user of the program.
Nebula 0 - AeternusEternus 1

At the moment, nebula cabs sound very, very thin compared with impulses and real cabs.

Well, don't be so quick here, because I still have an enormous speaker hum on my end of the chain. I guarantee that when I get rid of the hum and find a good balance of mic volume and amp volume, we'll be able to get exactly what we want. Nebula's completely capable of emulating all of it.

Great job AeternusEternus!!! Thanks for your hard work...! The last clips sound promising!
Cheers,
Dimi

YOU! HEY, YOU, MOTHERFUCKER! I WANT TO HEAR YOU PLAY ON THESE CABS! :D

You always have the best tones around. The feeling of playing on one of these cab programs is intense, dude. It just feels so much more responsive than impulses, like you're actually playing out.

:D I playing with the old ones even now!!!:loco:
I will post sample.

The last one L
http://www.myspoonistoobig.net/neb/CS1-I5-9100A.rar <- The Nebula .n2p and .n2v Is acting strange!!! It distort somehow the signal.

Btw, the Drive Knob is working like there was sampled the drive from the amp.

I'm using the last Nebula 3 update. Not the PRO version.

edit: I have it depend on the input level....
It sounds much better now!!!

Hm, that's kind of strange. I just load it up and it works its magic fine. I've never messed with any drive knob or anything, either.

MAN, that tone is incredible.

I have your MP3 hosted, but I personally don't have THAT much bandwidth available, so go easy, guys! haha

One thing. The new program is with too low level and it is easy to distort the input of Nebula :err:

The only adjustment I will ever make with Nebula is the Pad Out. If you select the program, click "PROG," then click "EDIT," there'll be a few things you can edit. Go to the "GLOB" section and select "Pad Out." From there, you can adjust it with the second knob until it's where you would like it. But generally, I just adjust the volume of anything before and after Nebula.

Well, guys, I did a little more, and feel closer than ever. I'm really getting comfortable with this.

The first change is Cab Session 2. I created it today, and it's basically the same as CS1, except I'm using a different template called Template_dynamic_1h (10K). Also, when I sampled these, I only used +20db gain instead of +40db, and I'm pretty sure it got me a lot closer to the real thing. The cab session can be found here -> http://www.myspoonistoobig.net/neb/cs2-session.rar

So, I did a few tests.

---

TEST 1 - The first was to turn down the microphone a little bit.

http://www.myspoonistoobig.net/neb/gtr-050909-cs2-1-neb.wav <- Nebula program
http://www.myspoonistoobig.net/neb/cs2-test1-prog.rar <- Program

---

TEST 2 - Turn the power amp up a little bit. The microphone's volume was still turned down.

---

TEST 3 - Back the microphone a little bit away from the cab, to hopefully get a little further away from the hum. The power amp and the microphone volume adjustments were kept.

So.. here's what I need:

1) Curve EQ stuff
2) Thoughts and impressions
3) What's next?
4) Also, someone sign on AIM or MSN and chat with me about this stuff. My AIM name is Evvy Pedder and my MSN is aeternuseternus@gmail.com

WAIT A GOD DAMN MINUTE. When I set +20 or +40db in the sampler, AM I CHANGING THE GOD DAMN TEST TONE VOLUME OR THE GOD DAMN RECORDING OF THE TEST TONE?!

Can anyone tell me why these programs don't show up in Nebula3Free ? :err:

Sorry bro...but the free editions of Nebula only work with programs made specifically for the free version...not custom programs.

@AE...it's sounding really close. I'm actually looking forward to giving Nebula another spin...again. Thanks again for all your efforts!

Damn that sounds really similar o_O
I guess I'll have to shell out those bucks to get nebula commercial...
Did I mention that it sounds really fucking similar?

Sounds like you pretty much nailed it :D

Perhaps Marcus could also take these templates for a spin

Definitely, this upcoming week I'll be done with school and almost everyone else in the house my apartment is in has moved out, so all I'll need is a procedure of what has finally worked! :D
