Recabinet

If you're having problems in Altiverb, make sure you are running Altiverb 6.2.0 or higher (I think there is a 6.2.1 update that specifically fixes a Windows issue.)

Just get the updater here:

Also make sure you are using a mono instance of Altiverb on a mono track (very important!) These impulses are of course, mono, since they are each based on a single mic.

Thanks for the awesome clips, guys!

!! what was your chain and your setting on the XXX on that

new version sounds great, and the volume differences going from Boogex to SIR are gone...Sounds great, really does.

What cab is the Ghandi 4x12 modeling? I can't find if you've stated that in the past...Anywho, here's a clip. I used this track to compare my miked tones with the recabinet stuff. When I recorded, I took a line out to test with this stuff in addition to my miked tones...Gets pretty close.

here's the recabinet version:

And, the original miked version:

EDIT

This is the Ghandi 4x12 here.

They are mastered different, so it's not a great comparison, but you can get the idea of the difference in miked vs. recab'd tones.

ESP Viper with EMG81 @ 18volts into a Maxon OD808 into the Crunch channel on the XXX.

I ran the channel volum all the way up, master was around 3 for the miked tones. Cabinet was miked with a single 57 on the edge of the cone with an SM57.

Going off memory, I wanna say the settings were:

Hair - 1:00
Body - 10:30
Bottom - 2:00
Gain - 11:00

Of course, for the recabinet version, I used the preamp output of the XXX straight into my Firepod and applied he impulse to the track using SIR.

Just looked at the manual and the line out is described as:-

"This 1/4" mono (TS) jack provides a post-power amp signal to drive another power amp/speaker system while maintaining the amplifier’s tone."

So yeah, it's after the power amp.

I used the effects send on the XXX. I don't know about the line out thing. I'd assume that would be the same, though, with perhaps a differently tonality if the power tubes are effecting the sound, I don't get how that would work though since it's not a speaker output, nor a preamp output...I wonder how the power tubes effect this tone on a line level out...

I may have to experiment with that some more. When I did this clip originally, my goal was to find a miked tone that I felt competed with the tone I was getting using the preamp of the XXX with GH's impulses. For this purpose, I actually like my miked tone better, but I think I could get similar results using Recabinet and some EQ tweaks. The time I spent just getting that miked tone was loooong. Using the impulses would definitely make my life better!

11?!? I never put mine past 9.30 :S

whoa i gotta say these impulses are really great. I tried these out on a recent track i am working on. Guitars direct with ENGL Powerball V2. And they are way better than ANY impulses I have ever heard. The way they sit in the mix is perfect they never get lost. I used the 6l6 57 edge grill Ghandi 412 with SIRII. One thing of concern though. I have a quad tracked section and i tried different mic position than edge grill on the quads and it didn't quite sound right. Also I loved the Ghandi 412 I am wondering if your impulse pack can contain anything better than whats in the demo. Great job though Shane these are definitely worth paying for. :headbang:

Have you guys found these to be generally lacking a lot of high-end content? I find myself doing some quite intense boosts where I otherwise wouldn't. I still can't get them sitting the way I want.

I had a huge boost on mine as well, no matter which mic position I use.
