Recommend me some Emotional Death Metal

Opeth aren't death metal. Just listen to one of their "riffs" and compare it to something by Dismember or the like. The difference mainly lies in that Opeth relies more on full chord based playing (a la rock) rather than rapid string picking that really creates the death metal riff.

The only thing about them that is close to Death Metal are Akerfeldt's excellent harsh vocals.

Don't write me off as a hater either, because I still like the band but it's pretty dumb/ignorant to say they play Death Metal.

Anyways, back on topic. Any other albums/bands I should check out?

But they said "Emotional" Death Metal, which seems a bit oxymoronic in regards to death metal's pure form. Opeth have heavy death metal influences, and their music is emotional as fuck.

Try Scythe (Ger), if no one mentioned them yet.

I saw you mention them in the other thread, I'll see if I can find that first album of theres on ss. I couldn't before unfortunately.

You would, but you'd be wrong. The Sound Of Perseverance is closer to Death Metal than anything Opeth has ever written.

Yeah, Opeth are not death metal. Just because Mikael growls in addition to his clean singing does not make the music death metal. There are no blast beats and there is no tremolo picking, and even the heaviest parts are usually too slow to be death metal. They do have some riffs that sound like melodeath or doomdeath, but never true death metal. Opeth are a mixture of progressive metal and progressive rock.

Well if you look at the fanbase, half are proggies and the other half are into various forms of death metal. A pure mix of prog rock and prog metal doesn't sound appetizing to fans of death/black metal.

(This is a rough demographic based on observations of the Opeth forum, don't dare attack me for being slightly off).

Im on a Scald kick, it's not death metal, but it's fucking amazing (always has been, always will be)

I do mean the russian Scald btw

It can be an accurate reflection. Obviously there's enough death metal in Opeth's bag of tricks to enthrall so many deathmetalheads.

Just listen to "Master's Apprentices" off of Deliverance. From the beginning you could swear it was Morbid Angel.

Okay, that was just stupid...Morbid Angel? Trust me, I've heard the song. I own the album. It sounds nothing like Morbid Angel, is the heaviest thing they've ever done, and still isn't Death Metal. The thing isn't that there's enough Death Metal in their music for people to classify it as such. The reality is that people don't know what Death Metal is. I'm surprised that you think Opeth is Death Metal, to be honest.

Perhaps you need to broaden your definitions of things and stop being such an elitist. I and many of us here would greatly appreciate it.
