Recommend me some Emotional Death Metal

Maybe the best list...
Yep, definitely is, although I find Cenotaph quite challenging to get into. Gloomy Recollections... for instance sounds quite interesting in places, but the songs are too hard to follow and the production makes it even less acessible. But it's definitely worth hunting down if you're a fan of Deathcult

I'd third J's recommendation for Mindrot too. Both full-lengths are worth getting. Their debut Dawning is among my favorites

I am surprised this thread is still around. Thanks for all the recommendations, I'll try and check out as many as I can. :headbang:

What no the new Anata is their most "emotional" since the first imo.

Most emotional yes, but overall, everything considered (guitar, drum work, vocals, production, song writing) it seems weak compared to the others.

I checked out that Cenotaph album and I am currently listening to Creepmime's Shadows.

I didn't like the Cenotaph album much on first listen, the production is just really, really muddy so I couldn't get much out of it. I'll give it some more spins before I completely write it off though.

The drumming is fantastic.

Opeth is irrelevant because the band doesn't play Death Metal, not because of the band's popularity.

Opeth DOES play death metal, and they have IMO the best DEath MEtAL vocalist. As to their popularity, that is irrelevant...
