Recommend me some Emotional Death Metal

Opeth, Morgion & Mourning Beloveth already been mentioned...

The Prophecy are also worth checking out

"Intricate guitaring laced with dark vocals and operatic keyboards keep up the brilliant quality that The Prophecy have created on "Ashes". The band weave an atmosphere throughout their songs that could be cut with a knife. Heavy, metal vocals with hypnotic and brutal guitar work will place this band alongside My Dying Bride but with more gut wrenching vocals and heavier guitars." 7 powerpoints - Glenn Butler - Powerplay magazine

Dave Ling (Metal Hammer) reviewed The Prophecy, supporting Morgion & Mourning Beloveth at the Underworld, London, feb 2003; "The gore flecked, progressive-tinged, heavy doom/death noise of 'Ashes' and 'The Killing Fields' gets the event underway in style, though for some they're possibly just a little bit too gothic."

but listen for yourselves... their stuff is beyond words ;)

And also Australian doom band The Eternal may also be to your liking...

"Firebox have uncovered another fine new band with a commendable grasp of the necessary dynamics and burst of mid tempo aggression that exemplify doom metal at its emotive best."
K! K! K! K! - U.K. Kerrang!

:)

Ophthalamia - a journey in darkness

Quote from www.bnrmetal.com "Ophthalamia is an odd Swedish band led by the man known as It, who has also played in several other Swedish bands. Their style is a somewhat odd doom/black blend, bringing together clear elements from both the doom and black metal genres without the band really sounding like either a doom or a black metal band. Their sound is thus a bit difficult to pin down, as they don't sound a lot like any other band. Lyrically they focus on the so-called fantasy world of Ophthalamia, as created by It, so says their biography (interestingly, their last album, Dominion, features lyrics inspired by MacBeth). Apart from their music, they are (like several Scandinavian black metal bands) notable for the members' various connections to other bands, with two standouts being former vocalists Shadow (Jon Nodtveidt of Dissection) and Legion, now in Marduk."

I have Via Dolorosa and based on what I have heard from other fans, it is their best release by a fair margin.

"Dominion" was ok. It's pretty cheesy, but it's got some nice riffs here and there. Very rock n' rollish though.

Has anyone said Amon Amarth? About as meaningful and important as Death Metal can get. Good storylines, somber melodies, I think these guys hit it on the head.

Emotional Death Metal? From the glances most of the bands listed have been Doom, I suggest just looking at Doom-Metal.com, as for a reccomendation, I suggest:
Forgotten Silence - The Nameless Forever...The Last Remembrance
Aarni - Duumipeikon Paluu (great experimental doom)
Evoken - Quietus (In Pestilence, Burning, is a very very good track imo)

I'll tell you what's NOT emotional death metal: Cannibal Corpse. They are possibly the dryest, most emotionless death metal band ever.

They have a big lack in high throat screams and solo guitar i'd say.

ATARAXIE (death doom from France, "Slow Transcending Agony" fucking rule!)

Cortisol (depressive funeral doom from Canada)

also some albums (depressive black) somewhat obvious:

Bethlehem - S.U.I.Z.I.D.
Abyssic Hate - Suicidal Emotion
Xasthur - telepathic with the deceased
any Forgotten Tomb album.
