I prefer the less self-consciously "epic", more fractured nature of the music a group like Autechre.

It was actually listening to Devourment that inspired my request, thanks for the other recs though
Thanks VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV also
I am sick of hearing what everyone's favorite obscure one album swedish death metal band is, but I don't bitch when someone requests information on them.Devourment is so awful and i'm sick of hearing about them.
Death: On par imo, for different reasons. Both quality albums though. But I'd go with Leprosy over those two if you haven't heard any Death.
Hmm upon a listen at their myspace, not even I like it that simple. Can we shut up about that. Anyway, the wiggeriest death metal is Soils Of Fate. Uber-simplistic brutal death with retarded amounts of groove.
I can't think of any 'epic' Doom right now. Maybe Forsaken.
For any of you that would like an awesome Brutal Death Metal band:
LISTEN TO GARBAGE DISPOSAL
Add Leviathan to this list.Dark Tribe, Graveland, Countess, Algor, Xasther, etc.

This is a few pages back... but Thunderstorm looks fits the bill nicely; I'll be trying to track down something by them.
