I've been listening to some underground metal for over a few years now.

Nothings ever really grabbed me, besides Opeth and Tool (If Tool is considered metal) and I'm curious, can any suggest me a few bands as a sort of...softer transitioning to the more underground metal?

If so, just start with Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul and Vampires of Black Imperial Blood.

Well, what kind of metal are you looking for? If you like Opeth, I'd recommend early Katatonia, for starters.
