Don't give me that shit - listen to a band for their musical value and don't fucking read into or think about the ideaological factors. Graveland (the band) aren't NS, though Darken (the individual) is. Or something. I think you'll find within this genre, it happens a lot, but the music is too fucking good to ignore just because the band members spout a bit of "white power" rhetoric in interviews. Now go fucking check out Drudkh.

i am strongly against racism. so i ask again, wich of the bands you listed arent ns?

I'm against racism too, but I'm not going to let stupid shit like that prevent me from enjoying incredible music. It's not like you're going to turn into a racist by listening to it. Also, avoiding things that you disagree with is pretty stupid for several reasons.

+1, oddly. I only avoid it because if I was found with it, I would be fired. It doesn't agree with my (mildy) left wing politics, but if I was worried about message, I wouldn't listen to 90% of my CD collection.

@ Doden's last post: Why exactly? I mean I don't really have a view on this but if someone finds white power lyrics disgusting then why should they be mocked for not wanting to listen to them? Not everyone can separate music and lyrics the way most metalheads have learned to.

I'm not sure which point you're addressing...

Not listening to music for any reason other than the fact that you don't like the music is pretty stupid to me (outside of external prevention like not being able to find the music). Fuck, it's not like you can feel the racism when you're listening to Nokturnal Mortum.

you dont understand. im half black! meaning id be supporting racism and i just want to end racism. id feel guilty and id look like a hypocrite and id be supporting people who hate me by giving them my money.

Mate, I feel your pain. Most of the bands I own would want to kill me, for entirely different reasons.

The nationalistic/folk thang seems one thing, but the openly NS thing really repulses me too.

I'm black too. I don't want racism to exist, but listening to music isn't making it worse. You're not a hypocrite for enjoying music. And paying money for a CD isn't supporting racism.

but my money would be going to them and it could go into racist clubs like the kkk.

These people are from Ukraine. There is no KKK in the Ukraine. Also, what happens to money after it changes hands is not your responsibility.

???

I am not sure if that was a serious comment or not, but I can assure you that just because a band is racist, that does not mean that all of the hard earned money from this UKRAINIAN black metal group will go to funding a redneck AMERICAN racist group. Be realistic dude, I mean they are going to spend it on either A: themsleves, to survive, or to producing more music.

No offense intended, but you're being a bit paranoid don't you think?

But you can't deny the lyrics exist and if you ignore them you are ignoring part of what the band/artist created. If a band include lyrics (and make them comprehensible) then I think its fair that they be considered when ultimately making up your mind how much you appreciate the album/song/whatever. How much importance you attach to them is obviously up to the individual, some people don't care about the content at all and some just like it to adhere to genre traditions but if someone's enjoyment of a peice of music is tied up in not only tolerating but actively liking the lyrics then I'm certainly not going to consider that view any less valid than that of someone who says 'lyrics don't matter' when it suits them.

I just think that if I can play you a song and you enjoy it, and then I tell you that a racist created it you suddenly dislike it, that that is just stupid. Who's to say that Hitler was a horrible artist? Who's to say that Hellhammer is a bad drummer? They've both espoused racial ideologies.

This whole NS debate is hilarious.

First of all, like Decadent said, Graveland is not NS. From an interview done in March:

Q: Graveland is generally considered an NSBM band, and seems to be an inspiration for many other NSBM bands. Do you consider yourself a National Socialist? Are you a member of any White Power or NS organizations?

Darken: I do not think Graveland is a NSBM band. I have never said anything like that.

Second of all, at those of you who base musical purchasing decisions and ignore incredible music because of your fears of pissing off boyfriends and coworkers. Yeah that whole shiny nickel the band sees goes straight towards the White Man's fight to bring purity to the land. Give me a fucking break. It probably goes to help buy Darken's next leather pirate suit. Or to buy a goddamn pancake at IHOP.

When my Fullmoon CD showed up, I proudly showed my wife. She said, "That's lovely, dear." :kickass:

I'm a human being and Cannibal Corpse has been singing about torturing, butchering, and eating human beings for years - never once have I been offended.

I didn't say all my co-workers would disaprove, I said I would be fired.. If I bought them, I'd have to hide them in case any of my co-workers came round, and frankly, it's not worth the risk.

No, I'm not kidding.

Not what I'm saying really. I don't care about people 'supporting racism' I just think someone who isn't able to enjoy music which has lyrics they find repulsive has a perfectly legitimate view-point.

I don't understand what is so wrong with enjoying art that doesn't mesh with one's own personal ideology. This goes with any art form.
