so, I'm listening to Hate Forest on My Space. Suprisingly, I dig what I'm hearing (Aryosphia from the 2001 release "Blood and Fire").

Are they any good, or just utter wank ?

I really have to listen to them again, because when I first listened to them I wasn't into black metal, and the constant blasts put me off. I vague remember reading that they are very good at building up with constant blasts, but it could be another band .

been putting off on listening to bathory forever being that ive heard the vocals are rather horrible. on the other hand ive heard that they re endurable and suit the music so which is it and is the viking-era stuff better than the early black metal records?

The re-release of Fester's Silence shouldn't be too hard to track down. Dodens is right, it is very uniquely melodic, but he failed to mention that the vocals are mostly a stupid, annoying whisper. Decent stuff, but has nothing on Winter Of Sin.
