Satanism/Necronomicon/belief in evil etc.

I'm agnositc however I am open minded. I'd love to study world religions once I get to college. Theology has always been an intrest of mine, just never took the opprotunity to learn about it.

The only 'satanic' beliefs I've done much reading on were Anton and Crowley's stuff. I consider both of those people to be simply figureheads who enjoy recognition and constantly seek(ed) it out. From what I've gathered of Lavey's writings, it's all just about being yourself and living it up before you die - do we really need someone to tell us to do this? I never got around to the ritual parts though.

As for the people who intentionally worship evil entities and ritually attempt conjurations, I'm yet to actually meet one of them. There are people accused of that often, but when I sit and talk with them it turns out they just let people believe that. Most of what's seen as "satanic" is really just an individual's antipathy towards the church.

In my opinion, all mass organizations of any religion oughtta be outlawed as they only create menacing mobs bent on changing things through any means necessary... but that's just me.

I think each of us who have posted should get in a chat somewhere about all this, or find a place dedicated to this discussion, cause it could turn into something really fascinating I'm sure. Okay, who in here knows how to setup a BBS in Perl or CGI?

I agree with the lasr post. THe whole satanist thing just seems like christian propaganda. A label they use to conveniently label people with opposing beliefs. I wonder if there is anyone out there adhering to non-commercial form of the dark arts. That link spaffe provided seems to be more of what Im looking for, too be bad it wasn't as informative about the interesting type of people they speak of.

An interesting author to read about shamanism and magic is Carlos Casteneda (sp?). Interesting stories and some useful principles you can apply in everyday life. "The path of knowledge leaves one no alternative but to become a warrior..."

That's short & sharp, tx.
I like also these kind of realistic statements that help you to grow more in action than in thoughts or endless talk .... Phil Hine is a good writer too.

As a teenager I was fascinated with the black arts but never had any intentions of conjuration or any form of demonic worship as I have always held faith in God.
I read the Black Arts (Richard Cavendish) and a couple others which helped me gain some insight on the subject but I must admit that I no longer have any desire to study the subject simply because my beliefs have been focused on a "good&Evil" workings type mentality. In other words,I believe in God and Satan and I also believe in heaven and hell and for someone to actually partake in an authentic Satanic ceremony is extremely unlikely as doing so would require the strictest devotion and the utmost knowledge in attempting any sort of invocation.
Its a really broad subject,so Ill just stop.

I agree with Dying Sun. Personally, i'm not interested in anything to do with religion, other than the knowledge itself of knowing about them, which can come in handy. I'm interested, however, in the physical realities of things like death, but more precisely, the way it is perceived and stigmatized by society. Every time I hear of a murder on the news, i'm torn between despising the anonymous murderer or admiring him/her. I'm interested in the things that make me feel that way, and what the functions of my restraints are.

Stuff like that. I prefer to think of evil in non-religious contexts, and thinking about what evil is defined as. (and why)
