ahahah. Glen Sobel's stick-twirling showmanship is ludicrously good.
It's sounding really good. A bit on the mechanical side, but such things can be tweaked when blending in a mix, so no concerns there! I look forward to having a play around with it.
PS: Steven, what kinda protein powder do you use..?

I'm really digging the sounds, yes they do sound quite mechanic but that's normal as it's being played on a Roland TD-20 live, in a mix it's a whole different story :]

I dunno if this is what you were getting at but I was gonna say half the 'mechanical' sound probably comes from the fact that the Slate samples are already processed and ready to go, and we aren't used to hearing a drumkit sound like that right from the get go. As in, when watching someone play - even an electric kit - our brains are going: "hey, my drums don't sound like this in a room.... must be fake!" or something like that.

Isn't Mr. Slate a member of this forum? Anyways sounds great as I generally expected... too bad all I have is lint in my pockets. I have a hard time debating between this and superior drums.
Oh dude, Slate without a doubt - S2.0 sounds cool, but my impression is it requires a fuckload of processing, the kicks are "eh" at best, and it's more expensive! However, the realism of the Slate standalone player (as far as the amount of available samples at different velocities and the randomization factor in triggering them for humanization purposes) is the only thing that gives me pause, but there's only one way to find out!

anyone have any idea of how the upgrades from 2.0 to 3.0 are going to work? I was told if you purchased 2.0 after a certain date, you get a free upgrade to 3.0 when it comes out.

"We've decided with the assistance of some folks on gearslutz.com that its kind of ridiculous to call this thing 2.5. So we're going to call it 3.0. We thought it would be easier to modify the "2.0" thats on the retail boxes to "2.5". But now there will be a new graphic sticker on the front that reads "version 3.0" and then there will be a cute little photo of the GUI with the supported formats."

hmmm seriously thinking about slate drums now , superior 2.0 really wasnt all that surperior to anything tbh my ezdrumer settings arnt too far removed from it! If Marcus is right about not needing a shitload of processing (which hes right btw all toontrack stuff sounds pretty aids out the box) this might be my next software buy

Although I do like the "not needing much processing", I also like to have the freedom to process a lot a change the sound a lot from the original source. I think the problem with this is that it will get much closer to everyone's mixes sounding almost the same drum wise... Although I think I will buy it anyways, 'cause he's got some sweet sounds indeed!
hey guys, I'm still a bit exhausted from NAMM but wanted to stop in and say hey...
NAMM was great and Glen Sobel constantly had crowds of 20+ people...
Also please disregard the sound you are hearing! Remember this is from a camcorder recording crappy Mackie PA speakers on the loud NAMM floor. In fact you can hear more of the sticks hitting the roland pads then the actual audio when Glenn plays.. For actual sounds, find yourself 20 free minutes and go here:
