Shawn Lane was probably one of the greatest guitarists that ever lived, and he was pretty drugged out (stuff much harder than pot mind you).

Yeah I couldnt imagine the greater muso's like Romeo ever touching that stuff, in the prog world, you even stuff up a little bit and the fans will tear you to pieces. I think metal (good metal anyway) generally promotes a no-drug attitude.

Now with my little rant over, I tried pot a few times as a teen and that was when I was into stuff like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, etc - long before I ever discovered the things I listen to now. So nope, never tried it to DWOT

I gave up pot 20 years ago. Too many ppl think it's no big deal but it makes you fucking lazy. Took me years to get back my ambition and make up for lost time. I don't recommend it.

it seams as if pot has no effect on me.I haven't smoked more than 10 times but i didn't feel anything !

but seriously you talk about how shawn lane was great even though on hard drugs but can you imagine how much better he could have played sober. Im glad guitar players like michael romeo never did that crap he probablly couldnt have came up with some of those awesome riffs if he was addicted to hard drugs plus can you imagine seeing romeo have shitty performance at the level of guitar playing he is at it would sound like complete garbage, i mean shit one of my favorite gutiar players michael schenker was a hardcore drug user and alcoholic wasted years of his life, missed concerts, and had some really shitty performances while he was wasted. actually met him recently last year at a local show and he said that once he was sober he really started to enjoy playing guitar again it even got the point where he went bankrupt from some bad decisions on top of being a drug addict he ended up having to pawn his signature gibson flying V's can any of you imagine being so addicted to drugs that you go bankrupt and have to sell your guitar or drum or bass whatever i would rather die then go thru that.

Weed doesn't effect you, or make ou stupid/lazy unless you do alot of it over a long period of time! Their is nothing wrong with smoking a J or piping it ever so often! I don't believe anyone really stated 'how often' they smoked! I would't be suprised if some of the members of Symphony X did it when they where younger... when I say did it I mean tried it of course... even if I was a major druggie I wouldn't ever be able to do anything lol, I do national competitions and get drug tests lol!Wouldn't look good on me

Shawn Lane died of a Lung Infection due to heavy tobacco use and obesity as far as I know. I never heard anything about him being a big time druggie..but then again it might explain why he died poor with no health insurance or anything...
