I have to write a 10 minute speech and present it on metal in a couple weeks... but it's a "demonstrative speech" so basically I can play clips and show pictures and stuff (with powerpoint).

I know this sort of thing has been asked before, but I searched and couldn't find what I needed.

Basically I need as many written sources (written as in BOOKS not online information) as possible.

The obvious one is Lords Of Chaos... what are other books to check out? (My main points will be a short history of metal, overview of different subgenres, and some explanations of the terminology of the actual music - what's going on basically)

I didn't say it was a bad thing, I just made an observation. I've done several myself, the last being the widely acclaimed "The Proliferation of Prejudice in Norway and its Relation to the Black Metal Culture."

I have done a speech on metal. Know one even cared/did not know I was into metal. It made me mad/laugh.

Why do so many people do speeches on Metal?

Think about it... a speech where I get to play CLIPS in class...

I can't wait to see the :OMG: when I put on some Gorguts or Cryptopsy :D

Plus I'd really like to just educate them on it, so they know it's more than just a bunch of random distorted crap.

Err...what? Death metal sounds a lot like "a bunch of random distorted crap" to the untrained ear...trust me on this...and don't expect them to shit their pants, either...I played Bathory in a speech once and most people didn't even look up. Better off playing some really wierd obscure folk metal; whenever I mention folk-metal to someone who doesn't know shit about metal, they're really surprised. Most people don't realize metal can incorporate melody. So...if you wanna educate them, play some Eluvietie or something...

Remember to make it clear that Lemmy is in fact a superbeing, not a mortal man.

I once started a speech playing Angel Of Death, having it fade out after Araya's scream and then talking over the song.
