Spider Man 2

If you're going to see it for visuals then you shouldn't go. It's about culture, legacy, and humanity. It's a masterpiece of a film, but I really doubt Spiderman fans would get it.

I thought Brave was very good. Not the best characters and story, but a cultural setting that made me fall in love with the movie after just a few minutes in.

The folk-pop in the movie was top-notch too :D

I haven't seen the new Bond but I've heard they have tried to do yet another "dark/mature" movie so I dunno how hyped I am about it. Still, probably better than fucking spiderman movies.

I think it was better than Casino Royale and I liked Casino Royale more than any of Brosnan's Bonds, so to me Skyfall is the best James Bond movie since whatever.

It was dark to an extent, but it had more humour than Casino Royale as far as I can remember. I did not see Quantum of Solace, which I heard was mediocre.

Brosnan was the best fit for playing Bond since Connery. Compared to stuff like Goldeneye, Casino Royale doesn't even feel like a Bond movie. I was never really a fan of the series, but Casino Royale just strikes me as nothing more than a failed gritty reboot.

What if I watch it and think it's not that good? I can have that opinion without being an ignorant, right?

Right now, the movie looks just like your comment: with its head up its a$$. ;)

I just doubt it's that good, that's all, call me a skeptic @sshole :p

it's the second weekend that "skyfall" is number one in Italy,it never happened
ever since Connery's era, besides all the critics are good.Honestly I'm not a big
007 fan,but it looks like this one might be good to watch for me too

I was always more of a fan of Bourne's style but there is nothing wrong with old Bond so I guess I'll watch this one. It looks like a good bridge between the old and new 007.

I've heard good things about Cabin in the Woods too.

You can have your opinion just fine. And you can have your head up your ass too, if you like. :)

I'm just saying that the film appeals to those interested in history, knowledgeable about it, and of linguistics, evolution, technology, psychology, etc etc. It's a thinking movie. If you go see it expecting an action movie, you'll only probably like half of it. If you go see it expecting it to wrap everything up at the end, or tell you exactly what is going to happen, what is happening, and then what did happen, you are going to be disappointed. It's not cookie-cutter shit like Avatar. It's not The Matrix. It's its own thing, and anyone who sees it would benefit from reading the book, or any books really. It's a movie for book and music lovers.

I have nothing but disdain for Jason Bourne movies. Awful bottom of the barrel garbage. Oh, and Goldeneye is the best bond film, but Connery is the best bond.

I was in total agreement with you until you said the Bourne movies were garbage. (for me it's the trilogy btw, I didn't see the fourth one and I'm not that interested tbh)

What I've always thought of Bond movies has already been summed up quite well by Matt Damon. :D

''They could never make a James Bond movie like any of the Bourne films, because Bond is an imperialist, misogynist sociopath who goes around bedding women and swilling martinis and killing people and laughing about it. He's repulsive."
"The Bourne franchise is not about wearing Prada suits and looking at women coming out of the sea with bikinis on. It's about essence and truth, not frippery and surface."

The Matrix is not bad but it does not blow my mind as much as it does for all these people who love it. Avatar I never even watched. I saw about 2 spider man movies, I'm not a big fan.

Again, you seem to think I'm some kind of hillbilly that can only appreciate action movies. I can read the book too and think it's garbage.

And what? Reading books like Cloud Atlas and being a music enthusiast is going to make me smart? No. Of course not. The only thing that it will make me is a snob with a misguided idea of inteligence or culture. Thank god I like classical music or else I'd be considered an idiot, eh? Inteligence is not measured by the amount of "smart" books you read or the amount of knowledge you have about complex pieces of music. Who's to say I don't read those books, or who's to say I don't think they're garbage?

I mean, c'mon, we're on a metal site, the whole point of the scene is that you're not a lesser man just because you like songs about dragons.

If anything you can say I was being harsh on a simple trailer and yeah, I know that a trailer is hardly a summary of a movie like this, but you'd be right. Like I said, call me a skeptic @sshole, I'm just like that

No hard feelings

Anyway...

I do like Bourne though, but my situation is kind of weird. I like movies that call back to the old action-adventure serials (example: Indiana Jones) but 007 really bores me. He just looks like the movie equivalent of Mickey or Bugs Bunny, you know, the guy that never gets hurt :p I don't hate it though, it's just not really my thing.

I don't know, maybe I just need to give 007 a second try.

I'm of the opinion that books don't make you intelligent. In fact, there are many books that can make you worse than unintelligent: Pseudo-intelligent. This is because intelligence is not about how much you can absorb but how well you can think on your own. So I don't subscribe to the "read a book, any book" mentality. But I can agree that without much reading etc. you don't have much to think about in the first place.

Having said that, the problem is that of assumptions. He made the assumption that you most probably won't get it based merely on your liking Spiderman stuff, and you made the assumption that what may be a great and thought-provoking movie is probably not that good based merely on a trailer. No big deal.

I have never seen a Bourne film, so I can't comment on their quality. However, Matt Damon's summarization of James Bond is clearly just an idiotic way of trying to make his film appear more grand and meaningful.

Actually, I've never had an opinion on Matt Damon, but if anything, those quotes are pretty repulsive. I'm not a 007 "fan", but some of those films are pretty good action flicks. I've had this conversation about their supposed misogyny before and honestly, it just makes me laugh.

But it is.

It's much more meaningful and even relevant to some of the problems the world faces today. And action-wise it's smarter and more raw and believable. The fight scene with Desh in The Bourne Ultimatum is the best fight scene I have ever seen in film. I'd watch the trilogy before making more assumptions. Damon was obviously taking himself too seriously (it's just a movie) but that's because he personally believes in the film's message and really immersed himself in the role. I welcome the edgy honesty.

Sure it's like the Romeo vs Petrucci thing, there is no absolute need for such a comparison, but Romeo is still better than Petrucci.

Ah, you're right. My own damn fault for assuming that just because of the trailer.

As for 007 and Bourne, I agree as well. Both the story and the action seemed more apropriate for the times. Again, not that there is anything wrong with 007, just not really my cup of tea.

By the way... have you guys heard about the SW Episode VII thing? Am I the only one to think that there may be *too many* blockbusters lined up for realease in the next few years?

Bourne is pulp novel trash glamourized by Hollywood for mass consumption.

Bond is too, but the difference is that Bond is a classic, flawed character.

By the way, I'm not singling you out keeper on my comments. I speak generally that Cloud Atlas will not appeal to fans of "easy to digest" blockbuster trash films. I'm not talking about you.

And books do not make you smart, if what you read is Stephanie Meyer. Then again, I wouldn't even consider that a "book" and as such mentally excluded anything bad. How do you know if a book is bad? If the author's name is printed bigger than the title, if the title is printed in glossy iridescent ink, if the title is embossed, or if it has anything at all to do with Vampires, chances are you are holding a shit book. Also included are all mass market paperbacks, wherein you may be holding a good story (refer to above criteria for a tongue in cheek spot check) but is nonetheless a bad book.

It is a shame that America has become such a consumer driven, bullshit drooling country that buys up everything sold to them. Including bad storytelling, and being taught that you don't have to think. It being election night, I think this is also quite relevant.
