I asked this on the mailing list today & figured I'd ask it here too..

I'm curious..what story/stories would you most love to have SymX put to music?

Something by Edgar Allen Poe...maybe "The Telltale Heart" (Rullo could have fun there!) or "The Cask of Amontillado." Or something else I'm not thinking of. ;)

Something of mine? j/k ;)

Seriously though, Poe would be good if they're going the dark route, though they already did him with King of Terrors. There's also some classics like The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, or The Monkey's Paw by W.W Jacobs. Or something by O. Henry because he's just cool. But if they did something with The Lottery, that would be awesome because that story is freaky.

Even though Star One did this already, and it would rank really high on the cheese factor if they're not careful, I think given Romeo's compositional influence theres one obvious choice: Star Wars! But only episodes 4-6 please ;)

I laughed when I read that, but thinking about it that would be amazing. I guess the main theme might be a bit too "triumphant" for the new album if it's going to be darker. The copyright issues probably wouldn't help.

Well, Blind Guardian have a concept album based on JRR Tolkien's The Silmarillion, and they didn't have any copyright issues with that. I think as long as you keep it vague, and refer to it as "based on" its not an issue.

The Bible. There is some excellent mythology there.

Seriously, Beowulf would be awesome.

...so would an original take on undead.

Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast books are still waiting for a really good treatment, and I can't imagine a better combination than Peake and Symphony X. Especially if there were quotations ala King of Terrors. I get chills just thinking about it.

Great idea, with The Lottery! :)

Now, at risk of sounding stupid....which Poe story WAS it in King of Terrors? I'm nerd enough that I'd go back and reread said story... ;)

The Pit and the Pendulum, I believe.

I dunno, since Poe's already been done I would like to see what they could do with works from other authors. That's just my opinion. Writing a song called "the Iliad" as a prequel would be totally lame, too. The Lottery would be an excellent choice. However, I'm still sticking with my #1 choice as Kafka. :)

Blind Guardian also has an epic about The Iliad anyway called And Then There Was Silence. Want a prelude to The odyssey then go listen to that :)
