Stories put to music?

If they did Harry Potter, I'd kill myself. I'm sorry. The music is great, and the fact that it's Harry Potter wouldn't bother me, but what will make me want to kill myself is when I try introducing people the genius of X, and I show them that, they'd do one o the following:
A) Shun them because it's Harry Potter
B) Start saying "Oh my god! Harry Potter music!" over and over again
C) Make fun of X for doing Harry Potter

There would be a direct correlation between number of album sold and people jumping off bridges.

Not that it isn't a good story, but Peter Pan, like anything butchered by Disney, would come off as being cheesy. It would be like Symphony X doing a story based on Cinderella. In the Grimm version the sisters cut off their heels and toes to get their feet to fit into the slipper, which is pretty metal in comparison to the sludge dished out in the Disney adaptation. So many people have Disney movies drilled into their heads when they think of fairy tales or classic children's stories they think about the movie they saw and not about how the story was originally written. On the other hand, if Symphony X manages to do a song about a fairy tale and make it sound metal then it would be an amazing feat.

Could be interesting...are there any fairy tales that Disney has NOT touched, that could be done this way? Maybe they could go back to the original book by the Brothers Grimm and try to do something less well-known?

Julias Caesar would make a killer subject. Wait. My band's doing that already. Forget I said that.

Thanks guys! Good to see some of my old favourite people still here, and some new ones!

I like the 'fairytale' story ideas too, especially seeing as we know these stories were never written for children they were simply adapted as such. I also really liked someones idea of the dark tower thing, thats very 'prog' imo.

we could get really dark and diabolical here and say stories written from Aleister Crowley's "White Stains" collection but ermm.. dont think thats really Romeo's style... its cool though! sick, but cool!

Obviously, there can be quite a unique take on Wizard of Oz.

There's also Counte of Monte Cristo which has been mentioned already.

Magic: The Gathering? Are you serious? How about The Wheel of Time? Too long...
