I've been listening to rock for a long time. I like grunge to nu metal to some metalcore, but just recently my brother gave me some deicide, death, sepultura, and entombed. I was just wondering what style of metal these bands fall into so i can dig deeper and see what i can find. Any help would be great.

Deicide: Death Metal. Relatively bland. If you enjoy that style, check out Vital Remains, Scent Of Flesh (don't bother reading the M-A reviews that trash them, they're totally garbage), and Luciferion.

Death: Early stuff is death/thrash metal, mid-to-late stuff is death metal with varying degrees of melody/progressiveness. Check out Gory Blister.

Sepultura: Began as excellent thrash, then (d)evolved into groove stuff and nu-metal. If you like Beneath The Remains, check out some other 80's thrash like Artillery, Sodom, and Kreator.

Entombed: Early stuff is death metal, later stuff is death'n'roll (rock-based music with death-ish vocals). Check out Carnage, Dismember, and Grave for bands similar to the early stuff.

Happy hunting!; this site comes in handy plenty...I sense you'll be referring to it plenty on your journey to find better, cooler bands.

yeah, mostly death metal type stuff.

some other generic examples that may be easy to find.

black metal: burzum, dimmu borgir, dark fueneral, behemoth(black/death-ish.)

thrash-megadeth, early metallica, slayer, the crown,

power metal: lost horizon, blind guardian, helloween,

you can look up what characterizes each genre on a site like urbandictionary.

.

I don't "get" the lack of appreciation Deicide get around here. I'd much rather listen to Deicide than pretty much any of the other older American DM bands, to be honest, including Morbid Angel et. al.

Well the first few Deicide albums are pretty good, I suppose...

I like them all to be honest - even those albums despised by the band themselves. I'm easily pleased I guess...

Yeah, early Deicide is alright. I still think they dont stand a candle in comparison to the other major 3 Florida acts (Obituary, Morbid Angel, and Death).

try some grind...Cripple Bastards, Assuck, Discordance Axis...good stuff

for black metal, I'd recommend Darkthrone and Beherit

death metal...definitely Morbid Angel and Drawn And Quartered

Deicide fails, other than that, you would really have to mention what your preferences are to get a better list of bands to be introduced too.

Beneath the remains, clandestine, and blessed are the sick are some of the few metal cds i have that i really liked.
i have a self titled deicide that i didn't think is too hot. i also didn't really like chaos a.d.
but the band i liked most is death but i only have a mix of thiers, maybe you guys would be able to recomend some of thier albums if they have any decent ones.

The best of each, imho:

Deicide - The Stench of Redemption (shockingly), or Serpents of The Light

Death: Scream Bloody Gore

Sepultura: Arise

Entombed: Left Hand Path

If you like this kind of metal - my top three rec's are:

Carcass - Necroticism (though be warned , all other DM will sound pretty shite in comparison after this)

Dismember - Death Metal

Bolt Thrower - ...For Victory

You should make an effort to hear Leprosy, Human, and Symbolic from Death.

Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness is essential.

Agreed. Strange habit Death had of releasing their best material on every 2nd LP (though all are pretty good).

you might want to check out some:

-melodic death metal
At The Gates
Arch Enemy
Hypocrisy
early In Flames

-brutal death metal
Krisiun
Bloodbath

Opeth-progressive Death Metal
