Ok sorry if this has been talked about a lot before but I was on my way to work today and i just for the hell of it threw in SX first album , I have not touched it in years !!!! , I always liked masquerade and Absinthe and Rue but i found a real appreciation for Thorns of sorrow and a lesson before Dying tho I still have a problem with the vocals on most I really enjoy these songs now.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on this album lately??

I don`t know why my heart keeps calling
but I really don`t want you to stay
I have my reasons to keep from falling
then cast me into -

this album is so funny because you can tell rod tyler and michael romeo want to be totally different things, and you end up with some weird-ass hybrid that sounds like a melodramatic metal opera performed in the dark with synthesizers.

listening to it again right now

it is growing on me, i admit

I guess I always took for granted SX's technical ability, but really the fact they played so well together right from the debut is pretty incredible.

Also, the verses in Premonition are awesome.

You are correct

The album has some tracks that I think would sound awesome if re-done with Russ on vocals (Premonition, Absinthe & Rue, Thorns of Sorrow). I'd love to see them release a few bonus tracks on the next album; Masquerade worked great on The Odyssey!

I recently got Spotify, so I looked up SX and immidiately got the songs from the first album on top. Now I see why this album is largely ignored by fans and critics. Some songs start out well, but then spur off to nowhere.

I think its just as good as every other symphony x album. Granted it sounds like they recorded in a bathroom (toilet to be exact)! And Rod Tyler sounds like my cat when it gets stuck in the vacum! But I dig it alot, and I'm just joshing about Rod Tyler he really isn't 'that' bad! If you guys have the Fan Club Disk, he does a version of 'A Winters Dream' and I was actually really impressed. He isn't a bad singer, just what he was trying to do really wasn't his style!

Because Symphony X has never dissapointed me, and I love all their music. Like I said minus the obvious gripes, sound quality, and the singer. Its rather nicely done, by just as good as all the other ones I mean it fits in with their other albums just fine, obviously on a chart its the lowest of all. But its still pure symphony x rapege!
