the Attonement/Reverie thingy

kind of reminds me when people bitch about the bonus tracks on those earlier versions of the Opeth albums. as if more opeth for your dollar is a bad thing, lol...dumb children.

*reads over thread again*
I don't see what you're referring to...

not in this thread. in general. its been an epidemic sweeping the nation of noobs for a while now.

i thought it was more the tr00 fans wanted the originals to make it look as theyve liked Opeth for a longer time that they have the originals. Also, when a version comes out with the bonus tracks, i guess it sort of makes the original a 'collector's item.' Theyd rather pay $40 on ebay rather than the $12 to get a new version with bonus tracks. to me, id take the bonus, its not a big deal

by the way, isnt blackwater park, deliverance, damnation, and lamentations getting re-released in june?

what are the extra part,s i'm curious, especially for lamentations?

hmm, well i dont know about all that. i just know a lot of people bitch about the bonus tracks AT THE END OF THE ALBUM somehow "ruining" the album overall. just fucking push stop on the stereo, i dont know what the hell is wrong with people. but additional tracks can NEVER be a bad thing in my eyes...and i dont even own the versions with the bonus tracks. :erk:

what the hell are they going to do? remaster albums that were made 3 years ago? does Mike really have enough extra bonus stuff laying around that he has enough to fill those albums with?

and they're re-releasing... a dvd? :erk: that's a new one

the blackwater park double-disc pack has been re-released for awhile... they're going to make a 3rd version of blackwater park? is there any point whatsoever? :ill:

the only re-release I would buy is if the Ghost Reveries re-release has a "making of" dvd included that's at least as long as the Deliverance/Damnation one... just because if they sold the dvd separately for $15 I would buy it, so it makes no difference if I get a second Ghost Reveries CD included... I'll give it to a friend or something

I honestly only own Still Life and forward but id rather find copies of the other albums whitout the bonus tracks.

I'd not like the mood of To Bid You Farewell being ruined by earache giving acoustic pollution that is Eternal Soul Torture. And it gets a little tedious to stop the album every time to say the least.

It had been one thing if the bonus tracks had actually been GOOD.

They are re-releasing because the old company doesent exist anymore. The albums are curently out of print if you didnt know.

I didn't know... I thought he meant "re-release" as we usually know it...

now it makes sense

Check Wikipedia

Orchid, Morningrise and My Arms Your Hearse were originally on Candlelight. Still Life was on Peaceville. Black Water Park, Deliverance and Damnation are on Music For nations.

Although I don't know if thats copywrites or distribution rights?

Wow. And I thought you of all people would understand that. Maybe if you did own the versions with the bonus tracks you'd realize how annoying it is. More music is always good. More music on slapped on the end of a CD where it clearly does not fit at all is not. Solution? A seperate CD like they did with the BWP reissue. More bang for your buck and you can still listen to the album the way it was intended without having to rush for the stop or fast-forward button when it's over.

But in the end it's not so much the issue of bonus tracks being there as it is the quality of the tracks. The bonus tracks on Orchid and Morningrise are just bad. They're poorly recorded demos which do not display anywhere near the same songwriting skills that the rest of the albums they are on do. So they are interesting as a historical document to see how Opeth has progressed, but not something that I see many people really wanting to listen to a lot. So that makes them pretty unsuitable as bonus tracks in my opinion.

And on MAYH the bonus tracks are actually pretty decent (but not mindblowing) and simply do not fit on it because it is a concept album and should end with Epilogue. Having it suddenly go into a Celtic Frost cover followed by an Iron Maiden cover just doesn't fit.

This probably will get another bunch of "rah rah you're a moron just press stop lol???" replies like it did in the other thread, but let me save you the trouble: I know how to operate a CD player. I'm aware it has the capabillities to stop the playback of a CD and even a button that lets it magically skip to the next track. The point is I shouldn't have to use them when listening to a good album.

Ya, people are becoming way too lazy these days... if you don't want to listen to the bonus tracks, just skip them. :)

It would be nice if there was a separate CD, but that would prove even more annoying for people who can't manage to run their stereos...

well thats all very interesting,
is there any way to burn a cd on your computer with a track in negative time?

Not that I know of, I think since burners work entirely differently from cd-pressing machines it might just be impossible, but there might be a program out there for such purposes.

And moonlapse - yeah, that would be one way to combat piracy (putting the entire album as negative time before track 1), but it would sure annoy the shit out of everyone cause you'd have to rewind through the entire album first and only have it as one track :)

Ganza said:
Ok, is there anyone that can clarify this "negative time" issue for me?
What does one have to do exactly to listen to the "hidden" song?

I'm very confused.

As for the bonus tracks, I never mind. I only listen to the tracks I like.
And more is always better afterall.

I have no idea what you're asking cause you're so vague I can't tell if you actually read my earlier posts or not :P

I only have the reissue of morningrise, but I don't regret it in the least and certainly wasn't avoiding Orchid/MAYH, I just didn't see the reissues of those around the time I bought them. Sure I never listen to Eternal Soul Torture but it's nice having a booklet with some actual content/pictures.
