The concentration of opinions

Excellent statements Aj, everyone on the board should read them.

Sorry about the financial trouble. I know the feeling. I was actually working for the Greek government for 10 weeks developing a economic/sustainable develpment program for the island of Santorini.

If you re-read my post, I acknowledged that my argument was one-sided. I did not just let my ego get the best of me, as you suggested. I just chose issues which I felt were most obvious on the board at the current time.

Also as far as Aj's above comments go, on the whole I agree, but music is not totally objective. As a matter of fact, it is quite the opposite and as such when entering a debate on this topic - immovability of opinions is to be an expected and natural barrier. The person who would appear to 'win' the debate has merely proposed a more formidable argument. But as 'bad' as the other persons taste appears, they can't be wrong. Its just an opinion.

<note this obviously exlcudes any factual issues argued>

And on this point, rather than younger more impressionable posters being the simple reason for 'herd' mentality, I believe it has more to do with the inability of people to develop a decent rebuttal to the arguments of a few of the more prominant board members.

it is easier to follow the crowd than to wear your heart on your sleeve i suppose.

Actually, this is my point, since musical taste is not usually based on factual information, but opinions, when one says a whole genre of music is bad, he is really wrong, it all depends on perspective. I have done this, I say rap and Sonata Arctica is bad music. This is just an opinion and therefore can be rationalized, but not proven.

I agree with this, but I think it may be a little of both. The same arguments have been thrown around here for so long that they become standardized, and before long, those arguments become common knowledge and people revert to bad mouthing. *shrugs*

It is. I am a very rude person sometimes. That is how I am. I am just onerous.

Well, I do the best I can, but your last statement was too true.

People are too willing to dissect every nuance of every post to bring out weakness in people around here. Can't we just talk about music?

I know that I, for one, nitpick about genre descriptions far too much. If you ever get told differently about a genre by me, don't take it as an insult, as I just do it subconsciously. I'm so used to fixing genres and stuff, by now...I hope you guys understand.

Oh, I got that from the beginning. Don't worry, I do it too. Just not as upfront, but I sure do it.
