the election, and stuff..

OK, excuse my broken English. He created whatever it is to do with actually making it possible for us to have Heavy Metal music. Is that better?

As far as the Cricket thing goes, I can't find it on the web again. It basically said that a game was invented using a stick and a ball. The ball would be aimed at something at it was the bloke with the stick that had to protect the thing being aimed at.

That was played long before the 'modern day style cricket' was created in England. Thing is, going by the type of description, people all over the globe could have invented such a game. It's just that historical records of it were kept in Croatia. Croatia was always very sophisticated and kultural. So that's probably why the TV show caught the person out with a trick question.

You'd think it would be online somewhere. I have it in a newspaper article somewhere where they talk about the tie (Kravat), Cricket, Tesla and even Pasta. Apparently it originated from Croatia too and Marco Polo was actually a Croatian. That was in a period when Croatia was under Roman occupation so maybe that's why history credits Italy.

Like with Tesla when some sites say he was born in Hungary... Technically, Austria should have been credited before Hungary because that part of Croatia was affiliated with the Austro part of the Kingdom. Nonetheless, he was born in Lika, Croatia. Fortunately, that is not too far back and can be corrected but the Pasta and Marco Polo thing is debatable.

What is not debatable is that Croatians saved Europe from both the Turkish Ottoman Empire and Napolean so Croatians have always been superior Warriors in Battle.

No, history credits Croatia with the modern tie. It's just been observed that the Romans and Chinese also wore scarves around their necks, but not knotted the same way a scarf worn in "Croatian Style" was.

Now I'm bored talking about Croatia. Let's move onto something else.

As you put your tie on in the morning, or as you write with your ball point pen, do you ever think of Croatia? Probably not. The modern day tie is a direct descendant of the "kravat" used by Croatian soldiers in the 17th century. The ball point pen was discovered by S. Penkala, a Croatian engineer who constructed the first ball point pen and the first fountain pen in 1906.

Not many people realize how beautiful of a country this is. George Bernard Shaw said " The Gods wanted to crown their creation and on the last day they turned tears, stars and the sea breeze into the isles of Kornati." Few people realize that Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" takes place here. The Dalmatian escape of the British sovereign, Edward VIII and his wife, Wallis Simpson, caused quite a stir.

Croatia is a place where the Mediterranean, the Alps and the Panonian plain come together. Since this is one of the smallest European countries, you will find the sea, the karst, densely wooded mountains and fertile plains, all within a hundred miles. Although the Adriatic is the most popular tourist destination, the continental Croatia abounds in beauty -- a land of forests and underground streams, the Plitvice Lakes, the region of Lika, the forests of Gorski Kotar, the wheat fields of Slavonia, rivers teaming with fish, the rolling hills of Zagorje.

You will not find the sea as clean as it is in Croatia. Long beaches, numerous castles, the deep woods, fields, spas, craggy mountains -- it is really hard to summarize all Croatia has to offer in a few sentences.

1618-1648 Croatian regiments of cavalrymen during the Thirty Year War, integrated the royal army of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. In fact Croatian soldiers reinforced the French cavalry. One of the regiments of cavalry most estimated in France bore the Royal-Croat name.

Their exotic uniforms and silken neckerchief would become famous all over the world as neckties. Cravate (Croats) in French means necktie. (Croatian – kravata, Polish – kravat ). They will be by the origin of the passion of the Court of Versailles for the tie.

OK so Croatia might have invented some neat stuff over the years... but so has every other country on Earth (what about the south-east Asian countries that invented practically everything that exists today?). Why should I care that Croatia is responsible for the fucken neck-tie?

I guess I don't see why this thread has turned into a "why Croatia is so awesome" thread.
