As you put your tie on in the morning, or as you write with your ball point pen, do you ever think of Croatia? Probably not. The modern day tie is a direct descendant of the "kravat" used by Croatian soldiers in the 17th century. The ball point pen was discovered by S. Penkala, a Croatian engineer who constructed the first ball point pen and the first fountain pen in 1906.
Not many people realize how beautiful of a country this is. George Bernard Shaw said " The Gods wanted to crown their creation and on the last day they turned tears, stars and the sea breeze into the isles of Kornati." Few people realize that Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" takes place here. The Dalmatian escape of the British sovereign, Edward VIII and his wife, Wallis Simpson, caused quite a stir.
Croatia is a place where the Mediterranean, the Alps and the Panonian plain come together. Since this is one of the smallest European countries, you will find the sea, the karst, densely wooded mountains and fertile plains, all within a hundred miles. Although the Adriatic is the most popular tourist destination, the continental Croatia abounds in beauty -- a land of forests and underground streams, the Plitvice Lakes, the region of Lika, the forests of Gorski Kotar, the wheat fields of Slavonia, rivers teaming with fish, the rolling hills of Zagorje.
You will not find the sea as clean as it is in Croatia. Long beaches, numerous castles, the deep woods, fields, spas, craggy mountains -- it is really hard to summarize all Croatia has to offer in a few sentences.

1618-1648 Croatian regiments of cavalrymen during the Thirty Year War, integrated the royal army of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. In fact Croatian soldiers reinforced the French cavalry. One of the regiments of cavalry most estimated in France bore the Royal-Croat name.
Their exotic uniforms and silken neckerchief would become famous all over the world as neckties. Cravate (Croats) in French means necktie. (Croatian – kravata, Polish – kravat ). They will be by the origin of the passion of the Court of Versailles for the tie.
