the first some what extreme metal album you heard... and liked

There is nothing "sad" about listening to thrash. But when you say you listened only to thrash and alternative rock, that is confusing. What kind of thrash were you listening to?

I was listening to bands like Metallica, Megadeth, all the good 80's thrash bands (ok i admit it was pretty much Metallica and Megadeth, then all those other bands Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Puddle of mudd, Lostprophets) haha i didn't listen to much good music back in the day.

Lyrics don't matter.

Truth. Disagreeing with lyrical content shouldn't stop someone from listening to a band. If that were the case, I probably wouldn't be listening to most of the music I do. :Smug:

And going back to CC...I saw them live many years back. They put on a killer show but I just can't listen to them on album. I appreciate what they did for one of my favorite metal genres but that's about it.

So you weren't listening to thrash, you were listening to Megadeth and Metallica. Not to say they weren't thrash (on some albums), just that you weren't exploring the genre, you were listening to two bands from a genre.

I consider my first exposure to extreme metal to be Kill em All, by Metallica, back in like 1984ish. At the time, it was the most extreme type of thing out there, and it was the start of my path towards extremity.

Its just that i got my standards is all. I know maybe i should not but if i find like fucking dead things, and all that stuff they sing about disgusting..... then why would i want to listen to a band sing about it? it just makes me feel sick is all.:puke:

Ya i never really explored the genera of Thrash metal, but now i am more into like death metal, and the sorts.

To each his/her own when it comes to listening preference and threshold of tolerance for extremity. If people judge you as lame, then ef them. None of us needs our own taste and preferences dictated to us from insecure people. Differing opinions and discussion, that's cool. But in the end, you are the one who is inside of you.

I personally was entirely offended by CC a while back by a quote they had in their CD booklet. I typically am put off by any kind of porn/gore type stuff. I mean, the song "Dead girls don't say no" by Indestroy is one thing, but I don't like the stuff a lot of these death metal bands talk about.

Hmm agreed.:kickass:

I would have to say Bathory is what allowed the transition from the melodic metal to the much heavier stuff as I explored the earlier work. "13 Candles" is always good to listen to while day-trading

Trivium - Ascendancy
Killswitch Engage - End of Heartache

yeah yeah not too extreme at all but that's where metal began for me, srsly. i wouldnt lie!

Back when i listened to rap, one of my friends gave me a CD with Gorgoroth, Marduk, Deicide, Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, and Slayer on it. That was 5 years ago and i havent looked back. That kid changed my life. So i have to say Twilight of the Idols by Gorgoroth.

The first more extreme album I ever heard was Morbid Angel's "Domination". It was my very first death metal album. I got "Reign in Blood" not tooooo long before then, I guess it can be labeled as extreme too. I think I was 12 when I got them, so it was pretty extreme to me. I dunno, the MA was extreme to my ears, but I guess the Slayer sounded kinda normal. I loved that MA album, now I don't want to come within 100 feet of that one.

My very first metal album was "Kill 'Em All" however. I got it when I was in 3rd grade so I must have been 7-8. It was right after I got a cd player & when they were starting to get known. My first cd player was a simple Sony Discman & it cost $250 at the time. I remember it coming in a really big box & everything.

of course slayer is extreme. for some reason, everybody's questioning that but come on, slayer's written some of the most brutal shit out there :kickass:
