The future of metal

Every country has an undercurrent of some form of metal, unfortunately most places have ashit load of metal core, but away from that Im sure everyone could identify with some music thats happening in thier town

I think metalcore reached its peak about two years ago. It won't fall off the face of the earth like nu-metal, but it will be much less visible.

I think we're about to see a flood of Isis clones, as their current spot opening for Tool should vault them to an In Flames or Opeth like level of popularity. Their music does not rely on too much technicality, which invites many to try to copy the style.

I also see some sort of post black metal or alternative black metal gaining strength. Releases like Blood in Our Wells or Kenose don't have a ton in common with black metal stylisticly. There will always be conventional BM bands that will make good albums, but I imagine an increasing amount will be blending conventions from all sub-genres.

Urban themed metal could get big, once bands figure out how to develop the right aesthetics. It seems like this is what Blut Aus Nord was trying to get at on their last EP. Someone will probably do something like that in a non-boring way.

I agree aobut the Alt. Black Metal thing, if you look at some of the legends of BM like Satyricon, some have played a more 'poppish' and more accesable style of Black metal, even though they are cool, that I band would be a good example of this.

Well, maybe in the case of bands that are keeping black metal aesthetics and playing rock. The bands that are playing black metal, but abandoning black metal aesthetics are the ones to look out for.

I'd like to see some more harmonic experimentation with the guitar riffs, make them sound really warped-out and dissonant but still metal. Deathspell Omega (on Kenose) and Dark Tribe (on In Jeraspunta...) have already showed signs of this, and it'd be nice to see more bands catch on the idea and develop upon it down the road...

Sounds fucking sweet, I actually just ordered a Dark Tribe album.

Post-ambient industrial thrashcore is the way forward.

Seriously though, I don't see any major development in metal sub-genres over the next few years, but there will still be plenty of quality releases no doubt and as long as that's the case, I'm happy.

Is their anything else to make though in terms of a musical stand point. We have made insanely fast shit to the slowest stuff ever. Metal has covered every topic, fused with every believe.

I mean is something good currently cooking up in the underground which will be the new subgenre of metal? Like the next death, black or thrash? Or do you believe metal pretty much explored enough territory? Do you feel it is possible that metal will return to something more simple before it split up into all these subtypes?

Do not mention metalcore. All of us know it is there anyway.

I don't know. The last few ears of strictly limiting bands by genre seems to have made very few bands willing to think outside the box - so I'm afraid what we will get, by and large, is "more of the same".

On Metalcore btw - this shit isn't metalcore. I was always under the impression that bands like Biohazard, Merauder and Above All were metalcore - all bands which I enjoyed immensely. This current wave ought to be called "metal-lite-core":kickass:

Too many newer heavy bands are trying to be 'dissonant' and it's gay. I think this is going to be the downfall for metal.

there wouldn't be a future of metal if everyone agreed upon old bands trying new things = suck

No future yet. mabye in a few years all of these loose ends will get tied into something coherant and powerful. A sort of combination of the ideas of more popular unique metal bands. I guess it will be slower and lower. Very riff oriented. I see a possible return of singing
