The less discussed "big" BM bands

Maybe lyrically but not in a musical sense.
I don't know Burzum lyrics, never will, don't care. In a musical sense, his work is profoundly meaningful to me, and I have no special attachment to him spiritually, idealogically, or for any reason having to do with his influence in the genre.

I don't think that that was I was implying at all, rather that there are quirks and meanings and paths of analysis that cannot be retrieved when language is removed from its original source. I don't think that Burzum's lyrics, for example, can be properly thoroughly analyzed in english by somebody that does not understand the source of the translation. I think the implication is more in favor of the writer than against.

Worship Him, Blood Ritual, and Ceremony of Opposites are all fantastic albums completely worth discussion :)

I need to check out Samael sooner or later. When you basically only buy music, it's hard to get to all these bands as well as current favorites. I finally got Gorgoroth and Satyricon releases within the last month. Sooner or later I'll get to early Behemoth, Ildjarn, and Samael, depending on what's still in print. I know early Behemoth is. That stuff is good as far as I know, and it doesn't get talked about much compared to their exceedingly average death metal material.

to clear something up, Enslaved is "Pagan Metal." probably because viking metal has been given a bad name as of late.

and look at Obtained Enslavement's wiki

How was Burzum less prolific than Enslaved? Varg recorded 6 full lengths and an EP in a 7 year span. Enslaved released 5 albums and an EP during the same time period. You can't exactly blame him for not being able to record albums after his equipment was taken away in prison...

Exactly what it says - this music is so fundamentally complex (not in technique, but in its layering and the marriage of concept and aesthetic) that it really can't even be discussed in the language of contemporary music.

Yggdrasill and Frost are worthy releases as well, but, of course, they lack the homicidal cachet of Burzum.

Oh I definitely like Frost as well, though it took me a while to develop a real appreciation for that one. I haven't heard Yggdrasil.
