The less discussed "big" BM bands

I am getting the album at the moment, just got through the first track and am on to the second now. I have never really been into Burzum that much so my opinion is pretty biased against them but I still don't really see how there is more going on in their music than many other bands.

I don't know if comparing Burzum with Enslaved is ever going to work. They are too different, and are both great at what they do. And they both rule. Now you lot can shut the fuck up! Burzum and Enslaved :kickass:

What about Satanic Warmaster or Urgehal. Also Reign Of Erebus is the shit. :kickass:

IMO Limbonic Art is a little behind all of the other bm bands, LA use drum machine so maybe that's the point.

There's more going on musically in "Det som engang var" than pretty much everything else recorded by every band in the world combined since about 1950.

uh, I really hope you're joking here. That is easily my favorite Black metal album ever but what you're saying is asinine. King crimson "in the court of the crimson king" >>> det som engang var

det som is a fucking masterpiece for 100% sure, but I am not sure how you can make that sort of a statement. I suppose he was exaggerating, but that still seems a bit excessive.

Exactly what it says - this music is so fundamentally complex (not in technique, but in its layering and the marriage of concept and aesthetic) that it really can't even be discussed in the language of contemporary music.
From the little I have seen of you, we don't agree on much. But this, I am in complete agreement with.

You're just as guilty of such overstatements as I am and most people who post here .SoG simply expresses his impressions differently. That was his version of "Burzum is completely fucking amazing, dude!"

I need to check out Samael sooner or later. When you basically only buy music, it's hard to get to all these bands as well as current favorites. I finally got Gorgoroth and Satyricon releases within the last month. Sooner or later I'll get to early Behemoth, Ildjarn, and Samael, depending on what's still in print. I know early Behemoth is. That stuff is good as far as I know, and it doesn't get talked about much compared to their exceedingly average death metal material.
Yeah, that is good alright."And the forest dreams eternally" is one of the best EP's I have ever heard.I haven't heard "moonspell rites" for over a month now & still I can't get it out of my head completely.Sometimes I wish if behemoth would start playing Black Metal again.

And I am thinking of checking out samael too for a while.

Did anyone mention Beherit yet? They are about tied with Burzum as my favorite 2nd wave band. Way more original than any of the other bands as well.
