Who are the guys that you can recognise in an instant?
The dudes whose style nobody has really been able to copy convincingly.

Bob Vigna/Immolation

The pinches, the bends and the weird dissonant chords.... sounds like warped tape or something

Hasjarl/Deathspell Omega

\/(4:28 kills me)\/

Bear in mind that the songs were released in 2002, 2004 and 2010 respectively. The first two videos are more for context of the style that developed from, even though they demonstrate one of his calling cards, the soaring trem picked melodies,
the riff at 2:10/4:29 in the second song is possibly the most beautiful riff of all time.

The last two videos are actually two songs each, but the album they're on is pretty much one piece of music. There isn't a whole lot that I can say about the style he has developed, because it is still a mystery to me, as it has proven to be to most people. The ebb and flow of this album is astonishing.
Seriously, how can a human mind write this shit? This album also heavily reigned in the craziness from their previous ep and full length.

HOW FUCKING DO?! :guh:

Goin to be super cliche here, but I'm goin with Dimebag. No other dude's been ripped off so intensely and no one has gotten even remotely close. I can hear dime's playing a mile away. His hands were so unique.

Meshuggah, Opeth. Haven't heard a band yet that can do what they do without sounding like a 100% ripoff. Truly unique \m/

That's the point though, there are people that can do what they do....... I'm talking about stuff that you wouldn't even know where to begin copying

I would go as far as to say that I hear a lot of Gary Holt's style in a lot of Dimebag's stuff ... But that one may be for the scholar's to work out

As for the actual question I'd say Jason Becker

Many have tried, no one has really ever nailed it although Firkins came close

Peavey Wagner, vocalist for Rage. He is either shrieking like a hair band or singing deeper than Johny Cash, and uses the phrase "all in vein" every second song.

SikTh for sure.

Nothing comes close. So ahead of their time, ripped off by many but still so unique (listen to those amazing guitars... and vocals wtf <3).

daniel gildenlöw, mikael akerfeldt, claudio sanchez, tom g. warrior, jim matheos... well, guess this list could go on forever, but just to name a few who popped into my mind instantly.

Schaffer maybe...lots of people play the same things, still it sounds like him when he does.
That's only for the recognizeable part tho, maybe also individual.
Original not by any means as he does a lot of stuff the same times.

Not really anything much original coming to my mind atm honestly...

as for vocalists it has to do a lot with the voice, which obviously is more of a gift then when playing an instrument (for sure singing great is hard of course)

Christian Alvestam. The guy has two different vocalists trying to fill his shoes and they still fall short.
