The New album is called Watershed : Out June 2nd

Perhaps 'Derelict Herds', co-written by Åkerfeldt and Per, is the song that's apparently going to be the menu music that was written for the Roundhouse DVD?

i dont think so, i thought that the menu music was written specifically for the dvd.

A 'Peel' is also a type of tower or keep. So it could read along the lines of 'German Tower', if we're to also read 'Hessian' as the German state (Hesse).

And I don't care if you think MAYH - Ghost Reveries is a "phase" or not 'All Sins Undone': you said that Mikael never allowed any creative freedom before, which is bullshit. Get your facts straight before you make sweeping comments, and then if you're wrong, don't try and backpedal.

What about title "Heir apparent"?

Heir can be sth like a "heir to the throne" right? That's the only meaning of the word I know ATM. Apparent? As in obvious? Not sure.

Well LOL, that's the problem with abstract titles. They can mean so many different things until we get to read the lyrics.

i know this ffs, i thought you'd of all people would read what i wrote up top. that still leaves MAYH, SL, BWP, deliverance/damnation and GR as albums written exclusively by mike.

Yeah but that still doesn't proove that Mikael is/was a creative dictator as you claimed as a fact.

LETS GET BACK ON TOPIC IM SORRY FOR DIVERTING THIS THREAD'S SUBJECT

Well, if it's something new that Mikael are letting the other band members contribute to the songwriting or not doesn't seem off topic, so no need to apologise for that.

lol the point i was making, people, was that this new album is a new step for opeth. in the past 5 albums, no one but mike has written the songs. now with this new album, mike has finally given his band-mates some freedom to write. okay, so the first 2 (also juvenile) opeth albums are the exception. jesus.

the point i was making, that this is a "new step" for opeth, still holds despite my inaccuracy in thinking that mike was the sole writer for the first two opeth albums. no backpedaling involved here sir.

Well no, your point is wrong because nothing states that Mikael didn't give the other members any creative freedom in the "phase" between My Arms Your Hearse and Ghost Reveries.

I'm listening to Opeth's catalogue at the moment, and nothing there says I should be in the least afraid whether or not the new album will be totally amazing. I'm almost sketching my "O" tattoo. :)

And hi Mike, keep up the dictatorship!

off topic, the more i look at the song titles and their meanings, this album could either be a loosely or tightly conceptual story. dont diss those who are craving a concept album, they could be right, however, nobody at this point knows anything about the lyrics/story, so we'll have to wait!
lawl, I just got flamed for making that same observation a few pages back. But I am glad someone sees some inexplicable coherancy. Maybe just wishful thinking.

I am also heavily interested in the implimentation of the organs, oboes, mellotrons, ect. This will be the first time Opeth has really used anything other than your standard metal instruments (other than synthesized versions). Some people at this other forum were accusing them of turning into some cheesy symphonic band, even with the overwhelming evidence pointing away from that fact.

Gahhhhhhhhhh I can't wait. I wish I could have just like a 20 second clip of the album's highpoint to whet my appetite.
