The New album is called Watershed : Out June 2nd

I'm so excited I feel sick...

Has anyone noticed the greek references such 'the lotus eater' and 'hex omega' maybe its a greek based concept album>? who knows...

I'm pretty chuffed Opeth named a track after me.

Burden is my surname :)

What is Greek about the lotus eater?? That's very Egyptian actually. But a lotus is also very muched related with buddhism.
I think you are reading too much into that :)

''In Greek mythology, the Lotophagi (Greek Λωτοφάγοι, lotus-eaters) were a race of people from an island near North Africa dominated by "lotus" plants. The lotus fruits and flowers were the primary food of the island and were narcotic, causing the people to sleep in peaceful apathy.''

Nobody here has ever read or heard someone say that this band's new album is their watershed album?

yes, and if wikipedia would give complete information, then it would say that this is very much inspired by contacts with Egypt. orientalizing influences were very prominent in Greek culture at a certain time.

but still no reason to see a Greek inspired theme of the album :p

I was thinking the same thing. Watershed is used quite frequently to describe a defining moment that causes a change of direction whether it's a new album or a divorce or having a religious experience, etc. It's really not that obscure.

holy crap, just the news we've been waiting for. I like everything about the title and the song list. Very different than past efforts. Cool to see Fredrik co-wrote, as well as Per. Ah man, this is quite exciting, I can't wait for June. Where did people get the reviews of Coil and such?

The song titles sound weird 'un-opeth like' but i suppose there a prog band. Interesting title 'Watershed'. Something to do with the nude and rude on T.V after 10 o'clock?

great news!!! album title sounds awesome, and the more i read the song titles, the more i love them!!

The update is up on Opeth.com, and has some more info, particularly from Mike.

AIC - Would? Suh-weet! Great tune...

OPETH Covers ALICE IN CHAINS, ROBIN TROWER During New Album Sessions - Feb. 5, 2008

Swedish progressive metal titans OPETH have set "Watershed" as the title of their forthcoming album, due out on June 3 via Roadrunner Records (one day earlier internationally). The CD, recorded in the band's native Sweden and produced by frontman/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt and Jens Bogren, is a masterwork that follows the time-honored OPETH tradition; its modern yet timeless, progressive yet paying homage to the sounds of classic rock.

"Watershed" track listing:

01. Coil
02. Heir Apparent
03. The Lotus Eater
04. Burden
05. Porcelain Heart
06. Hessian Peel
07. Hex Omega

All the songs were written by Åkerfeldt apart from "Porcelain Heart", which was co-written with new guitarist Fredrik Åkesson. One additonal track, "Derelict Herds", was also recorded and this was written by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg. On top of this, three cover songs were recorded. "Bridge of Sighs" from ROBIN TROWER's 1974 LP of the same title, "Den Ständiga Resan" (sung in Swedish) by MARIE FREDRIKSSON as well as the classic ALICE IN CHAINS song "Would?"

The album was recorded at Fascination Street studios during November 1 and December 13. Some additional recording was done between January 3 and January 7.

Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "I've worked so hard with these songs for quite some time now, I've listened to 'em a zillion times. I don't hate them just yet! The album sounds great sonically and I think I can hear us evolving as the record plays on. It is taking us somewhere musically and I don't know where. It's very exciting to say the least! I can't remember having enjoyed a recording this much ever before."

The cover was (as usual) designed by Travis Smith in co-operation with Åkerfeldt.
