I know the album came out in 92 but he'd been circulating for about 6 years beforehand so I still think of him as 80s based

Really?

Do I REALLY have to be the 1st one to mention Friedman in this thread?

After 3 fucking pages?

We were saving it just for you. ;) I like Marty, but was always more of a Jason fan, especially during Cacaphony. My favorite:

I'm posting way too much in this thread.

Edit: Never heard of Bernd Steidl. Interesting stuff!

Oh don't get me wrong ... Becker was and still is the be all, end all of guitarists in my opinion. I much preferred a lot of what he did in Cacophony vs Marty.

Funny enough I was just subjecting my wife to that cd over the weekend :D
This one was my favorite from the cd

As far Marty, hes just so ..... over done. The exotic scales are all cool and the odd not groupings are all fine and dandy. His playing just gets so boring for me. Rust In Peace was the performace of his career. Other then that I never really listened to his stuff other the Cacophony, couldnt subject myself to it.

Firkins was another master of the instrument.

Here is another classic Vid:

Frank & Jaco

Aside from Gilbert, Becker and Friedman, my other top 4 influences have been Vinnie Moore, Blues Saraceno, Joey Tafolla and Michael Lee Firkins.

Joey Tafolla - "Six String Souffle" this song kicks major ass. I love the melodic open string breakdown he does starting at around the 2:20 mark.

Michael Lee Firkins - "24 grand avenue"

Blues Saraceno - "Lighter Shade of Plaid"

Vinnie Moore - "Morning Star"

Doug Aldrich! He needs to be mentioned! He's played on countless things, but my favorites are:

His work with Hurricane on the album "Slave To The Thrill"

And of course, with Lion and this CLASSIC song :D :

Glad to see some love for Vivian Campbell as well. He had a HUGE influence on my early playing. And he apparently influenced/inspired other people as well...check the similarities. :)

Solo starts at around 2:55

Solo starts at around 3:35
