The Official Good Television Thread

I just finished watching the short run 2015 Aussie Series 8MMM
It's stupid funny with some hilarious one liners and some real dumb arse characters.
From memory I think the main chick was the girlfriend from Mystery Road origins and she does a good job in this.
It's not really award winning TV but it isn't too bad.

Watched Territory last week. Aussie Netflix series about a family running the largest cattle station in the world. It's easy to see things are glorified a bit for television but the story is interesting enough. It probably could have had more than it's 6 episodes and told the story in more depth because it did feel rushed. But it's still not a bad watch, and it's left open for a second series if they get it.

I really think if it had been fleshed out more it could have been a really great Aussie series. 6 Eps just wasn't enough.
There is no news on a S2 yet but apparently it was a ratings hit for Netflix so maybe there is a chance of it coming back.

Very surprised by how great Eddie Redmayne is in the titular role. He always struck me as one of those typical English dorks, Doctor Who-esque, but he's like a chameleon in this new show.

seen any good tv lately?

I don't keep up with new tv a lot lately. Sugar is a great off-kilter neo-noir, The Penguin is good but not as good as its hyped up to be, Slow Horses is a 6/10 show with 10/10 pacing, not great but extraordinarily bingeable. Silo s02 is coming out soon, s01 was solid but felt like mostly setup for what will hopefully be a better s02. But why watch new shows when you can binge Prison Break on netflix?

Anyone who watched Prison Break after the second season surely knows what shit is.

The first two were good, but getting to the end of the last season was a real struggle.
It's like the Sopranos, the first two or three seasons were good, but after that shit started to get boring

The character writing is terrible and soapy and the mystery doesn't go anywhere. I have no idea what anyone sees in that show.

Just finished watching The Fall with Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan.
The Yanks should take some lessons on how to script write and shoot crime dramas from the Irish.

The Penguin is good but not as good as its hyped up to be...
Agreed. Colin's performance was too good to have spent what felt like way too much time with side characters who aren't anywhere near as interesting. Also the rival gangs all felt very thinly developed.

As far as other shows go, I predict Taylor Sheridan projects will incur groans around here, but I liked the first 2 eps of Landman quite a lot, and season 2 of Special Ops: Lioness has been really good so far. Better than the last, much more action too. Maybe I'm just obsessed with Zoë Saldaña lol. They're definitely courting the 'male gaze' much more this season.

Sweetpea was a surprisingly good little dark dramedy. Planning to start Dune: Prophecy soon.

Still, Shōgun remains the best piece of television this year for me.

Watched the 4 part BBC series called The Jetty with Jenna Coleman.
It's about murder at a jetty and still better than most of the shit the US produces. 😜

Not just the BBC, UK TV is just better in general than the shit the US produces.
Fuck, if I could read I'd probably watch German TV and still have the same thought!
