Alright. So, I've been listening to alot of stuff like Depeche Mode, De/Vision, and Paradise Lost (Host-SOL period) lately. Any suggestions for similar bands I might enjoy?

Mesh (broken up) http://www.last.fm/music/Mesh

For everyone else that enjoys the opethy swallow the sunesque type stuff:

Check out Agalloch if you haven't already. www.agalloch.org

I will once again recommend the Early Day Miners album "Offshore" here, beautiful, moody, atmospheric stuff, repetitive sometimes, but in an oh so pleasant way.

Check out the song "Sans Revival" from "Offshore" on their MySpace: www.myspace.com/earlydayminersband If you want to hear more, PM me..

Another band you need to check out is Green Carnation from Norway.

Great progressive rock/metal, they're not total virtuosos, but they manage to hit the right chord and the right beat at the right time, really excellent, rewarding stuff. Their albums are all really different, so don't judge them by one song.

- "Journey to the End of the Night" (first album, pretty obscure doom/death stuff)
- "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" (consists of 1 song, lasting 1 hour, great progressive epic stuff, considered by many as their masterpiece)
- "A Blessing in Disguise" (more 'traditional', 9 songs, but great great great, my personal favourite)
- "The Quiet Offspring" (pretty much comparable to Blessing.. but a bit less good, still very much worth getting!)
- "The Acoustic Verses" (as the title says, a fully acoustic album, a bit like Opeth did with Damnation, beautiful album. They performed the entire album live on their recent "A Night Under the Dam" DVD)

Green Carnation is quite good..
light of day, day of darkness is amazing for sure. but i like the other albums as well..

well i guess this thread can be about sharing quality bands/literature/film etc that normally people in this forum have not heard of...?
is that ok?
if this is the case... theres a german band called Dark Suns.. they are good friends with the pain of salvation guys and their lates album 'existence' is brilliant ... check them out!

they are very good!
i'd describe their sound but i'll let you figure that out on your own :)

YES, Dark Suns Fans! I love Existence. new album should be sweeet.

I will just throw in my 2cents and recommend Gojira. really amazing band from France. they are a progressive death metal but they take a lot of elements from all over like sludge and thrash.
I picked up there new album "From Mars To Sirius" and haven't looked back since.

Everytime I read the bandname it reminds me that I still have to check them out. Somehow it never got to the point where I actually did.
Do it, you shall be rewarded :)

Another recommendation, Paatos from Sweden, in the vein of recent The Gathering with some Portishead touches here and there. They supported Porcupine Tree in Europe last year. Great band, they released 3 albums, "Timeloss", "Kallocain" and "Silence of Another Kind" of which "Kallocain" is clearly my favourite, but some will debate that "Timeloss" is their undoubted masterpiece..

Anyway, listen to them on MySpace: www.myspace.com/paatos, listen to the song "Happiness", absolutely amazing.

BTW, listened to some Gojira a couple of times, pretty original stuff, very well-played. I also heard Dark Suns once (while ago..), didn't make a lasting impression apparently..

Actually found out about karnivool here almost a year ago and have since purchased their cd. Awesome stuff. Thanks splintered vision if ya can hear me.

:headbang: No problems! glad you enjoy them. Good fucking band.

If any of you havent already...check out Pethical's band http://www.myspace.com/sleepmakeswaves
Some excellent post-rock.

Yes! Paatos are awesome. Im kinda torn between Timeloss and Kallocain as well.

A friend told me about Änglagård recently, seems to be a kind-of 'cult' band and their CD('s) seem to be hard to find..

Änglagård is really fantastic. But it tends to be music for musicians.
I'm lucky, and have the two albums and the live album.
You should give Landberk a go. Try their album "Indian Summer"
