The School/Uni Thread

I'm getting the ball rolling on grad schools again. This time it's a whole new strategy. I'm scoping out places for an MA in Classics and plan to visit each one if I can before I apply. Might be an epic road trip late this summer. Iowa I think is my best shot because of the connections my professors at UMaine have there. So far on my list:

Iowa
Rutgers
NYU
Penn St.
Ohio St.
Indiana
Wisconsin

And I might reapply to Michigan, since it seemed like I was really close to getting in.

Finally getting myself going on getting my school shit settled after a three year break from it. All I need to do is send in my income information and then I'll be good to register for classes.

About fucking time.

the fucking IRB people on my campus sent me two pages' worth of things they want me to add/change/delete to my application for research :bah:

it's a goddamn survey! it's not fucking rocket science

I finished my school-required internship at Cormorant Books (it's a publishing program) and I am now starting a second internship at the Association of Canadian Publishers as a Digital Services Intern. I am helping publishers with ebook conversions, metadata for Apple, Sony, Amazon and the like.

Unlike my last internship, this one is paid. Yay.

Hopefully I won't have to deal with my schools IRB for awhile. I had to take some online mini course thing on it all though >_>

Congrats! I'll be looking for a job in Toronto over the next couple months, so I might be hitting you up for tips/ideas if you don't mind.

What's the paper/what journals are you going to submit it too?

I'm still in the process of seeking out journals, but it's basically a paper exploring the role of music in A Clockwork Orange and how it demonstrates the struggle between intellectual control and the ("artistic") need for revolution. I didn't think it was a fantastic paper, but my professor did so I figure it's worth a shot. Worst that happens is I'll get rejected by everyone, and since I wasn't planning on anything anyway I'll pretty much just be where I started.

Alright guys,

Well obviously many of you have transitioned onto college and beyond and I have a few general questions. I kind of already know the answers to them but I want to be reassured :3

Basically, as I come out of high school and reflect on everything, I realize that I have been surrounded by amazing people blah blah etc. etc. and I feel like I totally failed in seeing that. Basically for some reason, I feel like there isn't a sense of community at college, I have NO idea why I feel this way. I want to finally branch out and do a ton of different things, and I want to have fun, amazing times with amazing people and cry, laugh, be serious etc. just as I have, and could have done more, in high school. is the energy different? are people more serious? I want to have more substance than just partying, studying and all of that. I know it's all based on the person, and different experiences, what the college is etc. What I'm getting at is, did/have/are you making worthwhile connections, experiences, choices etc ?

Dude. I had none of that in high school, and in college I did. So your experience in college will be all the more. Don't sweat it.
