The School/Uni Thread

If you had fun in high school like me, you'll have same amount of fun in the university too. But i wasn't much serious in my studies in HS than in the university.

Alright guys,

Well obviously many of you have transitioned onto college and beyond and I have a few general questions. I kind of already know the answers to them but I want to be reassured :3

Basically, as I come out of high school and reflect on everything, I realize that I have been surrounded by amazing people blah blah etc. etc. and I feel like I totally failed in seeing that. Basically for some reason, I feel like there isn't a sense of community at college, I have NO idea why I feel this way. I want to finally branch out and do a ton of different things, and I want to have fun, amazing times with amazing people and cry, laugh, be serious etc. just as I have, and could have done more, in high school. is the energy different? are people more serious? I want to have more substance than just partying, studying and all of that. I know it's all based on the person, and different experiences, what the college is etc. What I'm getting at is, did/have/are you making worthwhile connections, experiences, choices etc ?

I'm an anti-social bastard with no sense of humor and I still get people in college trying to be nice to me, wanting to be friends, having fun, etc. You should have no problem meeting people.

Some people are serious and a lot of people are just there to party, particularly people in their freshman year (I know a few people who ended up getting kicked out of university because of this. Hello, community college.) Once you start taking upper division classes in your chosen major it's pretty likely that you'll run into people who are very serious and ambitious and very interested in what they're studying. If you're looking to connect with people intellectually, that's when it'll happen in college (there are even clubs for this sort of shit; I was in philosophy club. The first time I went to a meeting, I instantly made a bunch of new friends.)

When you're an undergrad, you'll basically be tripping over people who want to hang out, be friends, etc. So you have nothing to worry about at all. And this is coming from a pretty extreme introvert. Also, bitches. Tons of bitches. Knee deep in bitches.

:D

Actually the school I'm going to is 60% girls O.O, I've been connecting with people via facebook and out of 30ish adds literally 90% of them are girls, and fine looking ones as well...

Anways, thanks for the response guys! It's just a crazy transitional period as you all know. Above all I am just incredibly excited to get things moving along.

major in English, and you'll be drowning in bitches. My english classes on average had maybe 5 guys in them max out of 20 - 30 students

Yeah I was going to say the Liberal Arts in general, but one of my good friends was a history major and frequently complained about the lack of females in his classes

All the engineering classes i've took, there's been this one single girl and all the others are guys.

There were a few girls when I was an electrical engineering major, but yeah, less than 10%. Physics is probably the only major where one will find less.

Alot more girls in Chemical Engineering than the other majors over here in my university, not complaining. I found my ex-girlfriend, who is now one of my best friends, there. That being said, engineering is a predominantly male dominated industry...

Interesting. I've never taken any engineering classes, but a good deal of attractive women have been in the preliminary math classes (calculus) where most kids are some sort of engineering majors, including the one girl I came close to having a relationship with. It's usually been about a 50/50 split between males and females.

It's true that engineering is dominant among males but i love to see some more females in my class. It's like i'm attending an all-male university.

Seriously? I found history classes to have a very even split. Maybe I took girly classes.

Probably. Most of the classes I took were in ancient/medieval political/intellectual European History while it was more even genderwise in modern/social American/world history classes.
