The School/Uni Thread

I did better on the ACT. I still contend that the standardized tests don't really mean anything other than how well you can perform under pressure.

That's what I like to tell myself. First few practice tests I was getting 800's on the math sections, but as it got closer to the test time I began freaking out and would get scores between 680 and 700, which equates to high 60's to high 70's percentile wise. Got a 720 which I guess isn't awful, but as a science major and considering that the test was mostly simple algebra, geometry, and data analysis, it's annoying. I need some ritalin if I decide to retake it.

I consider myself a more math oriented person and got a 1030 aggregate on it. Then again, I got As in all my math classes in college and only got below a flat B in two of my major courses.

My dad had an average score on his and he went on to become a successful doctor. I tend to think it's different for different people. I knew people in high school who would get Cs in everything but get a 1400 on the SAT. I don't think that fact makes them anymore intelligent than me (since people contend the SAT measure general intellectual ability)

I'd agree if that was the purpose of giving the test; but when it's given to determine how well someone will perform in a graduate program, I can't say it's the best method of judgment.

I was a C/B student and got a 30 on my ACT. Though, I was a lazy fuck in high school, so that's probably why I didn't get better grades.

I have thrown plans together for some courses I'm gonna do at a community college this fall.

Arabic 1
Korean 1
French 1
Intro to Education
Spanish Through the Media

I was going to do Russian, but it's at the same time as Korean.

Yeah I got a 27 on the ACT too, but did fairly average on the SAT. They were both free at my school though since it was like... a low income school or something.

Still another year and a half or so til' I take the GRE.

Awesome news. I am getting very excited. I move into my apartment in less than 14 days and all the books I will be reading sound very interesting. I'm just worried about the workload being huge.

It's not that hard if two of the languages are related and one of which I'm pretty much fluent in. Korean grammar from my research is not nearly as complex as Mongolic or Turkic grammar, and Arabic's complexity lies mostly in the great ambiguity of its words, from what I've heard. But still, these are basic courses, and I love learning languages, so this will be a lot of fun.

Thanks. I probably will need help. I heard it's difficult, and it's not related to any language I'm good at.
