The School/Uni Thread

That's another thing - "public schools" here means private paid schools - unlike state schools, which are free. I'll admit that is quite silly though.

Private here is paid for and generally better, and public ones are state owned.

I got back from my freshman orientation yesterday up at UMaine. I stayed overnight and had a blast. I can't wait to move in.

I got my class schedule, too, and it ain't bad:

1. Intro to Anthropology: Human Origin/Prehistory
2. New Student Seminar on Education and Human Development
3. Civilizations: Past/Present/Future 1
4. Readings in Latin Literature 1 (online course)
5. General Psychology
6. Intro to Ocean Science

I'm majoring in Secondary Education with a concentration on Latin.

interesting...I didn't know Latin was taught in some high schools (at least it's not in the crappy/inefficient/everything else Los Angeles School District)

I finished my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Xavier University about a month ago. My concentration was Finance.

My last semester consisted of the following courses:

FINC 465 - Options and Futures Markets
FINC 495 - Cases and Problems in Finance
PHIL 290 - Theory of Knowledge (Epistemology)
MGMT 302 - Quality and Production in Operations (Operations Management)
BLAW 300 - Legal Environment (Business Law)
PHYS 118 - Our Universe: The Sky (Astronomy)
PHYS 119 - Astronomy Lab

Total number of credits: 18
GPA for the semester: 3.48 (Honor Roll is 3.5)
I had my best semester at Xavier (I transferred) with the highest courseload. Rather ironic.

Here are the finance courses I took while I was there:

Finance 300 - Business Finance
Accounting 350 - Financial Statement Analysis
Finance 365 - Investments
Finance 460 - Security Analysis
Finance 401 - Financial Management
Finance 485 - Computer Applications in Finance (ZOMG Let's learn how to do really complex shit in MS Excel!)
Finance 465 and Finance 495 were stated above.

I basically took every finance course offered/required but one, which was International Finance. If I didn't have to take these bullshit required Philosophy courses, I would have taken that course.

I get the strangest feeling I'm not going to college.

But anyway, I submitted five job apps today (all at shit places, but oh well)

and my first day of night school was yesterday. Hooray for failing!

congrats, Ozzman. A business degree should pretty much be a shoe-in to a great paying job/career you will enjoy (since your into that sort of stuff).

I have no idea where my degree in Film Studies and Communication Studies will lead but I enjoy the content and do well so hopefully their will be a decent career at the end of it all.

I just chose my courses for next year (my 3rd of 4 years), some may change but most are solid:

Fall 07:

CS202 - Nonverbal Communication
CS208 - Graphic Design and Print Media
FS240 - Film History 1895-1939
FS341 - Classical Film Theory
ML300 - The Vikings

Winter 08:

CS207 - Media and Society
CS308 - Sociology of Mass Communication
FS249 - Hollywood Detective Film
FS342 - Contemporary Film Theory
FS343 - Hong Kong Cinema

In Serbia, educational system goes like this:
pre-elementary(1year)starts with 6
elementary (8years) starts with 7
hight school (4 or 3(craft) years)
college - a kind of, lasts 3 years
and university or higher college, lasts 4 or 5 or 6 years. it depends.

I study college of tourism (3 years). right now I have 3 more exams to go, one on july and two on september. I need to pass 7 of 9 (economy, sociology, english, french, statistics, law, economy of tourism, history of art, geography) exams till october to enroll to second year. I have passed 6 by now. and it has two-semesters

and about the price, private colleges and universities are expensive, and some of the public, too. but if we do well on the pimary test when signing in to public, we can go to school for free. but thats just a little amount of all students.

and about the summer job, it's quite impossible to find one, cause no one wants to employ a student for just two months, unless u want to pick up the fruit and harvest and kick your ass off the work in the field for minimal pay...
It's hard to get a job even when u finish all that schools... sometimes people can't get the right job for which they studyed all that time (some wait for years), so they do something else to earn for the living.

Argh, my uni hasn't given me a course list yet! I suppose I'll find things out when I do.... not sure what's going on.

All I know is that I have a single study dorm on the main campus, and that I'm studying solely history.

I have no idea where I am going to go for my last 2 years of Uni

recently, my parent's financial situation has gotten MUCH MUCH better and we are considering moving into this house that is brand new construction (he is getting some sweet deal on it, it's a 450 thousand dollar house that is around 3,000 square feet :kickass: :kickass: :kickass: :kickass: :kickass: :kickass: )

I was originally planning to go to UIC, but there is no way I am going to move out of my house (I am planning on working full time + being full time student + bodybuilding and I wouldn't have time to do all that and cook and take care of everything) and this new house is too far from UIC

at this point, I don't really give a shit what Uni I go to. I am just dying to move into that house. 3000 square feet beautiful house.

I am going to turn the entire basement 100% metal. There are going to be slayer and iron maiden posters everywhere, a great sound system, etc...

metal basement...nice

my courses for fall semester coming up:
English 310 Applied Composition (1)
Comparative Literature & Classics 320I Comic Spirit (8)
English 405 Creative Writing- Short Story (3)
Geological Sciences 102 General Geology (3)
Geological Sciences 104 Geology Lab (7)

and then there's a seminar I have to take paired with a course I'm co-teaching with two other students and a professor.

Good luck on the working and studying full-time thing, Hell Awaits. I know I wouldn't be up for it that's for sure.

I am planning on working part time (weekends, 16 hours a week)to avoid the majority of my debt accumulation for this year. Hopefully this will also allow me to free up most of my summer next year since I won't be obligated to have a full-time job.

thanks man. I am doing this so I can have enough money saved up so by the time I transfer to my Uni, I won't ever have to deal with any debts.

it's not really a big deal anyways, I am gonna get payed for around 38-40 hours of work but this place is so close to my house and often times I get to leave 20-30 minutes early.
