@plintus: i hear you, but you should definitely get moveable rubber strips for your floors. not mats (well, you'd need those for abs anyway, but that's not the point), rather hard rubber strips such as the ones some gym floors are entirely made of. i once dropped a small 6kg barbell on my floor from a height of less than one inch and it still made a dent, which i kind of hate. they also tend to leave marks when rolling, which they normally do once you set them down, even if it's just for a very small space. i found that rubber strips entirely solve the problem, they keep the floors safe and the weights entirely unmoving even if you don't have a rack or don't want to deposit them on the rack every time.
