The Top 5 List Thread

Title track, Dragon Stone, and Masque of the Red Death, in that order. Though in fairness that was my first time hearing that album in full (at least iirc), and while I've definitely heard Masque a few times before I didn't remember the other two. Everything else is a 4/10 or lower in my estimation.

Though I usually align with no country I share HBB's feelings that Masque and the title track are the best tunes on Mystification.

Unlike HBB I think it's pretty great all the way through though

You're immediately wrong. You made this argument about Tony Martin's vocals and @Dak destroyed your argument. There is no way for you to prove empirically that I am factually wrong.

Well, he quoted you as saying that black metal vocals are "objectively" worse. Seeing as you can't prove that black metal vocals are worse, you can't provide an objective assessment--only subjective. So I'd say that's a factually incorrect statement on your part.

Top 5 things objectively worse about black metal

1. Non-riffs
2. Only a few drum patterns known
3. Prefixes
4. Tendency to over-emote
5. Drum machines

The vocals are the only good part of black metal tbh.

I didn’t think you particularly enjoyed harsh vocals. You rarely have anything positive to say about them from what I’ve seen.

Anyway, this has some of the best black metal vocals imo:

I was referring to HamburgerBoy saying vocals are the best part of black metal. I’ve never seen him show particular interest in harsh vocals.

I've fellated van Drunen a shitton of times I know I've praised Attila before in some thread where crimsonfloyd was bitching about him.

Also got into Dornenreich thanks to crimsonfloyd

Thanks crimsonfloyd for bringing the terrible vocals on this album to my attention, it's great

Overall yeah I don't really care about vocals in general. I can stomach anything as long as it has good riffs, but in general the shrieky ott nature of black metal vocals is more fundamentally appealing to me than the bland homogeneity of most death metal. Truly amazing vocals are always a great bonus, but they're fairly rare and usually confined to trad and thrash metal.

Trivium's vocals are by far the worst thing about that band. Their songs are decent enough for what they are.
The tables have turned. Out-crowd infighting.
