The Worst Metal Genre

Fuck genres, sub genres, sub-sub genres and whatever else people want to come up with to classify music.

There's almost too much to choose from. Atmosludge/post-metal, pornogrind, folk metal, viking metal, symphoblack, depressoblack, and atmoblack are all basically universally garbage.

Party thrash.

Haven't heard that band but it most likely doesn't dissuade my opinion

Literally my #1 commuting album and probably my favorite album released after the mid 90s. Probably because they don't sound like much other grindcore though.

I agree with everything here except post-metal. Folk metal and symphonic black metal are probably my least fave.

Post-metal is sometimes aesthetically pleasing but generally puts too much weight on muh dynamics/climax over good writing. I should add an asterisk and say that I'm not lumping earlier Neurosis (e.g. Souls at Zero and the next two) into the genre, when it was basically a slightly more atmospheric hybrid of post-hardcore and doom metal.

See, I would like this if the vocals weren't complete dogshit since some of it sounds like some of the silly ads brutal death metal I like

Better track to post when recommending it would probably be either the title track or Kali, in my opinion. Fantastic album all around though.

I feel like this thread should probably be titled "your least favorite metal genre" but whatever. DSBM is my pick. I find it very tough to find anything from that particular sub genre enjoyable and its mostly difficult to listen to.

A lot of folk metal is pretty unpleasant but there's things I like within. Atmos-postkellogsraisinbran-sludge isnt something I actively seek out but I'm not offended by it.

Mainstream metalcore is usually pretty offensive to my ears, something about awful melodeath with angry shouting followed by whiny sung passages every fucking song turns my stomach, while I can tolerate but generally avoid deathcore any more.

there is literally nothing wrong with classifying music under genres
it gives people a broad term to describe what theyre about to listen to and helps people discover new music and discuss it more easily

fuck this post
