But Layne contributed just as much of the sound. His voice was an instrument. Plus alot of the songs he wrote/co-wrote. He added that feeling that couldn't be there with another guy. He had real lyrics, and sang them in a way that fit the vibe...and sang them damn well. Yes, Jerry was important, but without Layne it isn't AiC. I would say the same if Jerry had died instead of Layne. They are both necessary for the band to be what it was.
