thrash metal

but Ulysses Siren are still in the lineup!

ulysses siren essentially saved the show for me. avenger of blood ended up not having enough time to play so they got switched to tomorrow so 1 of the 2 bands i came to see didn't play today but ulysses siren's performance combined with this one other band, mercenary i think, really made it worth the trip.

I'd kill to see Ulysses Siren. Above The Ashes is one of my favorite thrash records

That's probably because you really don't know much about them.

Death, Atheist, Cryptopsy, old Bathory, Venom, and Obituary are really the only death and black metal bands that I like. It's just bands like Burzum, Darkthrone, Immortal, Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, etc. that I find incredibly boring.

today i think they played 2 new songs because he said he had to read lyrics from a stand and said something else about them. i'm looking forward to hearing them on cd because live they were decent but not amazing like i'd expect.

I like thrash very much.I used to be into it very much.
But now I need to be in the mood, usually once in 10 days or something like that.
I like Metallica(the first 3/4,imo ride the lightning is their best),Slayer,Megadeth,Forbidden(a huge fan of their first 2),Kreator etc.
But thrash is a thing of past imo.And it is almost dead now.

It's making a comeback.

the problem is that most of the bands that are supposedly "bringing thrash back" are just rehashes of the 80s and bring absolutely nothing new and are completely uninteresting. out of all of the new thrash bands in the bay area (not including the old ones that are reforming or still going and whatnot) only 2 out of about 10 are worth listening to on purpose and outside of randomly seeing them at a show.

I think the form itself is more to blame than the ingenuity of the bands themselves. There really isn't very much that you can do with Thrash Metal in its purest form before you start diluting it. Though the following newer bands I find retain that 'something' that makes thrash listenable:

Sauron (US), Lethal, Corrupt, Nocturnal, Toxic Holocaust, Witchtrap, Alastor (Prt), Ryoveli, Hellish Crossfire, and Eliminator. I'm sure there are a few others I haven't listed.

Well, you can obviously never bring thrash truly back. The modern world and metal just doesn't meld well.

For instance, I don't have to wait to buy an album, I can just download it, and it's instantly available. No excitment build-up, no starring at the package, no playing the album all the way through twice. The digital worldis cold, impersonal and boring.

Anyways, theres no way to truly bring thrash back... which is fucking gay.

*Sigh*

:yow: sweet!

@Dodens: I'd add Dekapitator to that list

Word...and Villains, Maniac, Bastardator, and a few others. Farscape...the bad (or simply terminally mediocre) still outweighs the good though, like (I hate to say it, but) a lot of the Witches Brew roster (Hatework, Vexed, Gama Bomb, Hammerwhore, Redimoni), Merciless Death, Vindicator, Victimizer, ten thousand random Bay Area bands clad in faded tight blue jeans and dirty white high tops, etc., etc.

You can just download it... or you can buy a CD which gives you that entire experience.

Really!I didn't know that.Well its hard to know when your only resource on metal is internet.I only know about a new band called Blood Tsunami
Well since you & Necuratul says so & he posted a few bands,I guess I will try to check it out.You wanna post some band names too?
Thanks you two.:headbang:
