I think I've been able to include the most important albums from the Swedish DM scene, and I've also tried to include everything from melodic DM to brutal tech-DM. Only one album per band.

I did consider adding "Where No Life Dwells", but:

1) I've never heard it, and
2) You're probably the only one who's actually heard it in the first place.

Yeah it's pretty good, but Unleashed is PRETTY FUCKING WELL-KNOWN as one of the big Stockholm/Sunlight bands (Entombed, Dismember, Carnage, Grave, Unleashed, Treblinka/Tiamat) and mostly everyone who likes death metal has heard "Where No Life Dwells". About 5^10*13 more people have heard THAT than Unanimated and God Macabre, for example.

My knowledge of death metal is somewhat limited, but I doubt that (m)any of those get close to Once Sent

Fair enough, I should check it out, then. Then again, this list is pretty much based on what I've heard (and enjoy, except Dissection, Edge Of Sanity, Hypocrisy, Dark Tranquility, Amon Amarth and a couple of others) personally. I thought God Macabre and Unanimated were pretty well known in the scene, though?

If by "the scene" you mean "the ANUS fanboys hanging around in General Music Discussion" then yes. Otherwise, nowhere near Unleashed's popularity. If you're going to download songs, get "If They Had Eyes" and "Before the Creation of Time". Smashin' stuff.

Yeah, I know Somberlain and GoD fellate those albums at every given opportunity, but I've actually heard positive things about those two bands in several other places as well (such as M-A).

I went for At the Gates, but both Euharist and Dark Tranuillity are close behind. Dissection is right behind those again.
