To you, what defines "Metal"

I know it's a ton to read, but I addressed that point already.

Oh, good one. So what's attitude then? Some something that everyone agrees exists in metal? And anyway, Dragonforce has about as much attitude as a dead cat.

yea, and dragonforce is about as relevant to things as bill clinton's blowjob was to the oil market.

Black Sabbath do have elements of metal in their music, I won't deny that. But they are over 50% hard rock for me. Therefore, I consider them hard rock. At the time they were considered metal due to their being little to compare them to, and they were the heaviest band of their time. But compared to the majority of the bands in the metal genre today, they sound more like hard rock then metal to me. My view is that the rules of a genre are dictated by what the majority of bands in a genre sound like, though a lot of metal bands have elements of different genres in their music.

So... are you saying that Dragonforce aren't metal, NFU?

I think they suck, but I couldn't deny that they ARE a metal band...

*EDIT* WAYHAY, 1000 posts, finally. :)

why wouldnt they be metal? theyre just horrible, thats the point i was illustrating.

You guys are fucking stupid, Sabbath in the Old Days didn't have the modern equipment to sound heavy like more current bands : I am talking about guitars, mics, distorsion pedals, amps, recording process etc
That's why you got the impression that Black Sabbath sound a bit hard rock.

Proof ?

Listen to the Black Sabbath Live Reunion album released in 1998 and tell me that the overall sound of the band is not fucking heavy.

Listen to any Black Sabbath covers done with modern equipment (Metallica's Sabra Cadabra, the 2 tributes and shitloads of covers) and start being ridiculous : 99% of Iommi's riffs are chunky, fat, doomy and heavy as hell !

Well, he was pointing out that, while you said metal was defined by attitude rather than distortion/downtunedness/whatever, Dragonforce lack any kind of attitude whatsoever, and are still clearly metal.

When you said they weren't relevant, I thought you meant to the discussion as to what defines metal. Because he actually makes a fair point, really. How can you say metal is defined by attitude when a band as clearly metal as Dragonforce have none?

So, while Dragonforce might be a giant pile of pants... they are still relevant to the discussion, no?

i obviously realize the fact that Black Sabbath is and will always be metal. i never said it wasnt. and yes, i recognize that there are many genres of metal.:p ..and those genres are fit for every type of personal musical preferences. its all good :loco:

how do dragonforce lack any attitude? theyre silly and awful...but they are still metal. i dont even understand what youre getting at here.

Jesus Christ NFU, now you have completely ceased to make any sense. Let me try again, I'll make it easy this time:

1.You say metal is defined by attitude, as opposed to distortion, downtunedness or whatever.
2. It's pointed out that Dragonforce have no attitude (a statement that you fail to dispute at the time)
3. You say Dragonforce aren't relevant, which in the context of this discussion could be interpereted as implying that they aren't metal. I think here is where the misunderstanding arose. I thought you meant they weren't relevant to the discussion, whereas you ACTUALLY meant that they aren't relevant to music discussion in general, because they are shit.
4. I make the point that they clearly are metal, and yet lack any sort of attitude, thus contradicting your theory on what defines metal.
5. You think I'm being random and retarded, due to the previous misunderstanding.
6. I try to explain what I meant, by reiterating the fact that Dragonforce clearly being a metal band contradicts your definition of metal, as they lack any discernable attitude.
7. You change your tune entirely, now stating that they ARE metal, and that they DO have attitude.

So, you have pretty much contradicted yourself. But I can see how that would happen, I wasn't particularly clear. Do you get me now? :)

oh so this is why you try to pick on me all day...

well don't treat the shit you read here so seriously or you'll end up in an asylum... my post was stupid but it fits the overall level of the thread... can't take sarcasm or what?

(BTW my post was a qoute from a video which you apparently haven't seen so it is you who should shut up I guess...)

im not contradicting myself whatsoever, i think youre just assuming i mean things that i dont. when i said dragonforce wasnt "relevant" it was directed at coolsnow who brought them up for no reason whatsoever except to illustrate his opinion that they dont have any attitude. of course dragonforce is "metal" and of course they have "attitude". unfortunately "attitude" doesnt usually equate to sincerity or seriousness. especially in metal. and furthermore especially in power metal. anyway, i meant bringing up dragonforce in this conversation was irrelevant, not that they werent metal and didnt have "attitude"...you jumped to about 12 conclusions there. try to pay attention.

I jumped to ONE conclusion, and purely did so to make the point that for somebody who debates with others so constantly, and slams so many other peoples opinions, one might have thought you would have chosen your words more carefully, as they were blatantly open to misinterperetation. It seemed like you stopped paying attention, not me.

That is all. :)

do you really think im going to pay that close of attention to most people in here? not but 15 minutes earlier you were telling me swallow the sun was solid and candlemass was shit. anyway, now you know what i meant. lets move on.
