A list I came up with, I think it's pretty accurate.
The (is their main stand out in my opinion)
1.Martin Lopez - Opeth (Groove)
2.Nick Barker - Dimmu borgir Cradle of filth Etc Attribute (Fucking Speed)
3.Kai kahto - WinterSun (Speed, tempo changes)
4.Chris adler - Lamb of God (Tightness, most unqie drum arrangements and fill ins.
5.Gene Hoglan - SYL death testament(Legend, Speed)

In Reverse order:
5. Stanton Moore, Galactic/Corrosion of Conformity
4. Martin Lopez, Opeth
3. Nick Menza, Megadeth
2. Lars Ulrich, Metallica
1. Dave Lombardo, Slayer

Honorable mentions: the dude in System of a Down. Matt Sorum of the cult, G'n'R, Velvet Revolver.

In a Class of their own and cannot be compared:
Igor Cavalera, Sepultura
Neil Peart, Rush

I always thought that alot of Black Metal bands used Drum Machines...
a fat guy like barker to me doesnt look to have the stamina.
The new Nile Album has a guy named Jon and he is very fast, more so the blastbeats or whatever but it was pretty fast to my ears.

I've heard Dimmu Borgir does or did use a drum machine.

i dont have that many fave drummers tbh.. even though i'm a drummer.. The Korn and the SOAD drummers really sparked my love for drums when i started 6 years ago.. but the people who refined my drumming style etc were Mike Portnoy, Martin Lopez and David Gray fropm Akercocke. I guess my fave drummers list would be:

Mike Portnoy
Martin Lopez
David Gray

thats the only guys who i actually really love tbh..

just remembered.. Vitek (i think thats the guy) from Decapitated rules, and so does .. and the god-like Tryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyymmmmmm

Wow, I'm surprised that nobody came up with a decent list..

Read the title, top 5 drummers of ALL time..
Martin Lopez is my favorite drummer, believe me I'd love it if he was on the list but he just doesn't deserve all time...

yet.

I don't even think Portnoy gets it yet.

You've got to give it to all of the greats before the 90s.

It's astounding to me that a lot of Opeth fans seem to think music was invented in 1990. Come on, some Neil Fucking Peart anybody?

as far as metal drummers go my favs. would have to be David Haley from Psycroptic, Dennis Rondum from Spawn of Possession, Martin Lopez from Opeth, Flo from Cryptopsy, Gene Hoglan from Dark angel/Death

Kai Hahto is truly a gifted drummer. Did you know he also plays in Rotten Sound and Enochian Crescent?
My other favourites could be...
Jon Theodore (The Mars Volta)
Gene Hoglan (you know..)
John Dolmayan (SOAD)
Danny Carey (Tool) -I'm amazed no one has mentioned him yet
and of course Martin.

Lars Ulrich shouldn't make it even to the top 500 drummers-list of anyone.

Well how about:
1 Billy Cobham (numerous jazz groups, incl Mahavishnu Orchestra)
2 Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson, Bruford)
3 Neil Peart (Rush)
4 Mattias Olsson (Änglagård)
5 good ol' Lopez
