top 5 non-metal albums of all time

can't really flesh out a top 5 non-metal list right now... but my top 2 non-metal discs (excluding classical albums of course) would be topped by these two:

Guns N' Roses- Appetite for Destruction
The Cure- Disintegration

the difference between Zep, Floyd and No Doubt is that Zep and Floyd made some incredible and iconic, groundbreaking music. Does No Doubt have any songs that even come close to a song like Kashmir or Stairway to Heaven or Dazed and Confused or Echoes or Shine on You Crazy Diamond or Comfortably Numb?
Frankly No Doubt are again one of those bands of the 90's that left me dumbfounded as to why they acheived such notoreity... I found them obnoxious.

On a musical level no, but rock music as a whole stepped away from the 'complexity to be good' way that it was in the 60s and 70s. But I personally find Ex-Girlfriend, Different People, Just A Girl, Spiderwebs, etc. to be 100x more memorable than songs from PF and LZ.

np: Our Lady Peace - [Naveed #01] The Birdman [0:00 / 5:15]

At any rate, OLP is pretty awesome.

Really... I mean... really? Did you just honestly utter those words? In public? I'm just embarrassed for you.

I agree I dont like anything before Kid A.
What do you think of Amnesiac In Rainbows and Hail to the Thief?

amnesiac is sporadically as good as kid a, kind of haphazard though. i have this huge attachment to 'life in a glasshouse' which virtually nobody else seems to share, and i love stuff like 'i might be wrong', 'like spinning plates' and 'pyramid song'. hail to the thief is the band's archetypal 'solid but minor' album, i like it when i listen to it but it never leaves any lasting impression. in rainbows i really like, there's a scary amount of ease to that album, and the songs kind of wrap you in this sleepy daze, gradually etching their way into your consciousness. i don't like it start to finish, but it's really classy and subtly affecting stuff.

i sympathise with these kinds of points, it's just unfortunate that no doubt kind of suck.

/me fandom switch
Oh wait, what is that? We have 12 NFL Championships? 12 > 5

Saints will win a SB one day though :(

wow... aside from a few good bands on this list... this list reminds me again why i HATE 90's popular music.

I like you and all, and we share nearly identical tastes in music, but what the fuck? Don't get me wrong, I'm not mad, just disappointed.

Mother of god.

AC/DC? The Rolling Stones? Lynyrd Skynyrd? These bands were lauded, and they were the antithesis of complexity. Bands in no way needed to be "complex" to be good. They just needed to be good. No Doubt is, on the other hand, the antithesis of good. They're over-simplistic, gratuitous, and immature. They have nothing to offer other than an immediate satiation of the senses. It's commercial pop to the fullest.

But I personally find Ex-Girlfriend, Different People, Just A Girl, Spiderwebs, etc. to be 100x more memorable than songs from PF and LZ.

I can't even begin to understand why you feel this way. I mean, I don't like to call someone "wrong" when it comes to music, because everyone has their own tastes; but this is just unfathomable to me.

I guess you wouldn't have much of a problem with it if the Bengals didn't suck dick all the time. Get over it, hardcore fans use we and us all the time. There's nothing wrong with it.

Lick the tip

Anyway, I get more and more tired of Skynyrd every time I hear them played by cover bands. If I end up getting a band formed (since this singer is being a shitpusher and not getting back to me), we will not be doing Skynyrd. Absolutely not.

Skynyrd are meh at best, if you're going to go the Southern Rock route cover The Allman Bros instead.
