am I blind or did no one mention Carcass - "Heartwork" ?

Any OPETH.. not pure death but if you havent heard them please do.

Maybe because Heartwork is one of the most overrated metal cds ever?

And don't have anyone listen to Opeth, unless they're an insomniac.

There should be a warning on Opeth cds:
Listening to this CD my cause drowsiness. Do not play while driving or operating heavy machinery.

I thought people were supposed to name EXCEPTIONAL death metal bands? There seems to be a lot of average ones being listed.

This man knows his death metal; except I'd sub in Winds Of Creation for Nihility, and Scream Bloody Gore for Human. And I'd add:
Possessed - Seven Churches
Sadistic Intent - Ancient Black Earth
Vital Remains - all
Sepultura - Morbid Visions/Bestial Devastation

I always find grindcore(especially ND's later albums and Nasum) to sound like a subgenre of Death Metal. That's because I've never listened to any punk or hardcore before so what kind of comparisons should I make to consider grindcore to fall into the two aforementioned genres?

The Chasm – Deathcult For Eternity: The Triumph
The Chasm – Conjuration of the Spectral Empire
Miasma - Changes
Therion – Beyond Sanctorum
Atheist – Unquestionable Presence
Vore – Lord of Storms
Gorguts - Obscura
Gorguts – The Erosion of Sanity
Demilich - Nespithe
Arghoslent – Incorrigible Bigotry
Golem – Eternity: The Weeping Horizons
Massacra – Final Holocaust
Necrophobic – The Nocturnal Silence
Afflicted – Prodigal Sun
Nocturnus – The Key
Immolation – all
Suffocation – Pierced From Within
