TRIGGER Intro Video and NEWS

I only wish the iLok were a little smaller. I keep bumping into it by accident and always am afraid I'm gonna break it.

Get one of these if you havn't got it yet. LIFE SAVER

or you can get one of these

and build yourself an "ilok box" in a drawer or something so you never have to worry about it getting damaged. A producer I worked with had an ilok worth probably 20,000 bucks, and he used one of these with a black padded box that sat with all his harddrives in a machine room....excessive yes, but also safe.

I'm probably on my own here, but I like that slate is going ILOK. I work in a dozen different studios all the time, and I bring 2 things with me: My ilok and a usb dongle with all the installers for all the plugs I bought. In 10-15 minutes I have all my toys at my disposal without having to go to websites and authorize a new computer, wait for a challenge/response code or anything. Ilok is way less of a hassle then any other form of copy protection IMO.

Even the NI service center BS protection for SSD 3.5 is annoying as hell for me, so I bring my laptop just for SSD.

this!
iLok authorisation is actually a point FOR buying new software...if I can't decide between two I'll go with the one that I can use ilok authorisation for.

I still don't understand the iLok hate. I think I used to hate it, but I'm the same as Lasse these days, I actually prefer iLok plug-ins over any other authorization process. Complaining about having to "lug" around USB hubs is so silly, they are smaller than your cell phone and weigh nothing, and are damn cheap too.

MY one and only complaint about the ilok is that it's a piece of cheap fucking plastic. There was no reason to not manufacture those in a metal housing, even it if ran me another $20 to do so. I had a stienberg key's plastic housing fall apart at the seam. I was pretty fucking pissed off when it happened.

Seriously, I have purchased flash drives for less than $10 that were more resilient than the ilok and stienberg keys.

That's because PACE stand to gain from iLok breakage by selling you their 'iLok insurance' or whatever they call it. What's their incentive to sell you something actually resilient to physical shock?

My biggest problem with iLok is that PACE are crooks. You can't delete licenses from an iLok, so if you download too many demos and run out of the limited space that is on there (the thing must seriously be like a 64mb flash drive) you have to buy another one. Clever. Fuck that company.

Yeah, that is another dick in the butt. I almost bought another ilok just to use for demo licenses. :puke:

i've actually got another one.... wehich i use for pretty much this purpose.
although i try not to demo too many plugins, as i'll be in the middle of the mix and the trial will run out; then i'll be up shit creek.
happened with the waves CLA. Gutted. need those plugins in my life.

Oh and put me down as an ilok lover. so much easier than fucking authorising things if you move about between studios.
and about iloks being fragile.....

while I understand it sucks that demo licenses can't be removed, why is like 20 bucks such a big deal for those of you who fill an iLok? Surely you don't have 100 non-expiring demos in there? If you have licenses worth like thousands in there, why is it so bad to have an another iLok?

And why won't you build something for the iLok if you think it's weak? Like living on the edge? It's simple; just an USB extension cord so there's no chance of accidentally breaking it off, and maybe a small case of some kind to have the USB extension cord going into, so there's nothing that could happen to the actual device, unless the room you're using it in is filled with water all of a sudden or something

Well, not everybody has plug-ins worth thousands of bucks on their iLock. But even if they have, why is a considerable mass of people feeling to get little value for their money with the iLock not entitled to voice their opinion?

People buying iLocks are the ones willing to stay legit. The iLock does fuck all for you but allowing you to use the software you already paid a more or less significant amount of money for.

I like the idea of the iLock, I NEED to have one myself to use the software I purchased, there's no (legitimate) way around it. Yet I think the concept was poorly executed on some levels.

The only reason why PACE gets by, selling their crippled product is their monopoly. Try to sell a regular flash drive (and there's little more to an iLock) with similar specs at the same price and see how successful you'll be...

They must make a ton of profit on these things. I bet they could easily fabricate an iLock with extended storage in a metal housing and still make a significant profit.

Maybe they change that with iLock 2.0, seeing as how their protection isn't worth anything anymore.

I don't care if something costs $5 or $5.000, bad value for money is bad value for money and one shouldn't be expected to just suck it up.

My 2 cents.

Edit: I am, however, glad they went the iLock route for Slate Digital. Even with all its flaws, it'S still the nicest way to manage licenses.

For guys who can't get the license on their ilok, first make sure you have all the latest updated ilok drivers.. Then go to ilok.com, sign in, and manually hit the "redeem license code".

When it says "enter the ilok code", use the number that is embedded in the link that you got after registering for the TRIGGER demo.

I don't see how it's a "crippled" or "flawed" product... It does everything it's supposed to, doesn't it? I mean it doesn't survive if you jump on it, so what? Only thing that could break off would be the USB connector, but it's easy as fuck to prevent that from happening, by means stated on this page...

Also, if you are able to fill an iLok, I still don't think 40 bucks more means shit. I mean, come on... I only have like 5 registrations on my iLok, but I have more than 30 purchased, registered plugins.
