Vote: Royal Carnage 2006 March Madness Elite 8

Ironic seeing as how I have been continually flamed for being the one person who points out people should cast their votes according to which band they like more. (aka find to be a higher "quality") Ask JK, I'm sure age and nostalgia affected his vote oh so much less than mine.

AKA (legendary band 1) isn't a worse band than others in this competition because they came out in the _0s, they're worse because their music isn't as good. You people tend to think I'm "all about modern music" which simply isn't the case. I just think people are fooling themselves as to why a band is relevant to them. I'll know full well that people hate Opeth and see why, despite their being my first band, unfortunately, no else here seems to be able to do that. I'm just honestly surprised at how people completely fail in every way to be able to discuss this around here.

quick comment here: Who says we don't like metallica more than ulver? or sabbath more than x? or maiden more than primordial? Are you fucking telepathic or some shit? Are you a fucking psychic? Do you live in a swamp in lousiana? Miss Cleo? Is that you?

Fuck off friend, we've explained to you a bunch that some us simply prefer old band x to slipknot. Kthxdie<3

And yes, essentially what I'm getting at is that since you all have such an overbearing sense of blinding nostalgia, I look forward to a tournament where every band is actually judged for their music.
Nostalgia is a powerful thing. And it's hard to tell how much of it seeps into the voting decision. That said, I tend to agree with you. I'll be more interested to see who makes the Final 4 in 2007 than I have been this year.

So Opeth17's still bitching about how people are voting in A COMPETITION WITH NO PARAMETERS FOR VOTING!? Whoa, this place is full of.... interesting people!

I can see both sides to this debate. On one side, were just goofing off and you shouldn't worrying about what criteria people are using to vote or the results that criteria yields. Conversely, if you're younger and into mostly newer bands, I can also see where the results of this competition seem overly nostalgic. After all, you can make the argument, that neither Maiden, Sabbath nor Metallica, have put out a decent disc is almost two decades (1988, "Seventh Son", "...and Justice for all").

No, if you make that kind of argument you are dumb

This kind of ignorance is why you have been and will continue to be considered a shit poster by much of this forum. Don't expect people to take you seriously if you can't do the same for them!

I'm a younger person, have only been listening to metal for like 5 years, and I love maiden and metallica and a couple sabbath albums. Priest and Mega-dave don't do much for me though. But i love a lot of old shit ( bathory anyone?) way more than I enjoy newer stuff. Doesn't mean I dislike either one.

Sometimes, theres more important things than "technicality of the music", theres such a thing as emotional power to a music. Bathory is good at that. So is DsO. So is metallica (the young dumb and full of beer and headbanging emotion :p).

@IoftheStorm -- You have the amazing ability to make you and everything you say the blathering of an idiot with your inability to accept anyone having a differing opinion from you. Like a fucking churchy. That said, sometimes you post good music, so I won't ask you to fuck off and die.

Actually I am more lenient than any of you

This could be perfectly true, but from how you present yourself around here none of us would ever know it. If you want us to see us the way you see yourself, you're going to have to start being a little less narrowminded in your posts.

I don't care how you want to see me, my posts make clear that i respect others' opinions more than anyone here, especially the victim of anal bandits who still carries that severe trauma on his ass.

i don't know what you guys are bitchign about, but I voted purely on gut feeling ... not "how many albums in a row X band made that was classic" or other trivial things ...

shit I voted Metallica over NB, and you all know how much of a NB fanboy I am.

Just to clarify, it wasn't my intention to insinuate that younger people don't appreciate Maiden, Metallica, etc.:headbang:
